No Service Book?

So, if you had a service book, you'd trust it completely? No one ever in the history of selling cars has ever falsified a service history to make it look more attractive?

A digital service book proves without a doubt what has happened to the car and ensures that the car has had official MB servicing through it's life.

Oh dear, if only digital forgery didn't exist

Some of us grudgingly tolerate it , but certainly do not trust it .

How many errors are made by banks , insurance companies , government agencies - DVLA etc - all of whom store data in this way then deny when they get it wrong ?

My car is 2009 too - it came with a printout of its service record from MB Norwich but no book. I called them to confirm and ask for a book . They checked but said it had never had a service book to stamp/fill in. They had been prepared to send a duplicate before they found there wasn't anything to duplicate. Future buyer can't insist on something that never existed, so I don't think there's any need for or even point in worrying. Hope the car is still doing well.
PS: Pdf for UK Audio 20 from 2009 anyone? I've found a North American one.

I don't really see any problem in not having the old fashioned service book, just so long as you have copies of the service record/invoices. I file each one in the folder with the handbook on mine and the wife's MB, which goes into far more detail than a little book with a stamp. The indie I now use can even access all the old MB service records if needs be anyway, so no problem at all.:dk:

I bought my 2007 CLS63 via a good friend and had an account of the servicing but was advised it's an electronic service book.

Had two receipts of the previous services.

When I had the chance I had the service receipts printed off from the digital service book. It's as good as having a book with stamps in!!

My understanding is they haven't had a physical service book for putting stamps in for years.

A digital service book and a wad of receipts showing the services carried out is perfectly good. :)

Mercedes me lets you access your own service record on line. I suppose you just have to keep the invoices if you have the service done outside the system.

my 2016 model s205 does not have one its all digital at the dealers, just get a print of of ant previous work done and keep a file on it to pass on when selling.

Hi

Looking for some advice. Picked up my car 3 weeks ago from the local MB Dealer in Ayrshire (no names). Was told car had all the documentation, service book etc. I asked to confirm this as my wifes car (bought from same dealer 3 years ago) came with a replacement service book - not bad for a car 12 months old. My car is 3 years old.

Have asked dealer for the missing service book and was given a bit of a run around. Been contacted today my the Service Manager who says basically I dont need one due to the electronic service program.

Do I just go with the flow or persist on getting a book. Electronic history is fine till I dont get a MB service, or when I go to sell the car without a service history.

Any advice?

Thanks

Hi, I have just bought a car from MB Ayrshire and was told the same that all service records are electronically stored.. must be the new thing but you can as for print outs...

Cheers..

Years ago I bought a Used Citroen XM. It had a stamped service book. I found under the seat the original service book which was stamped also with different stamps but with the latest ones missing. Took some research to find which book was correct & posting it off to the dealers to get it corrected.

Had our SLK serviced yesterday. It does not have a service book, but the main dealer provided a print out of previous services.
