Hi all. I just bought a PC without an operating system and loaded up a genuine copy of Windows 7 for my Father. The machine is running great, however when I shut it down the 'Number Lock' light on the keyboard stays illuminated even though the PC has shut down. I thought perhaps the PC is in a 'sleep' or 'hibernate' mode and by pressing a key on the keyboard it will 'wake', however this is not the case. If I then press the Number Lock key when the PC is shut down, the light will go off. I just seems a bit strange that this light stays on even after the machine is shut down.
Any ideas how to solve this please? TIA

I have/have had a few PCs where the same thing happens. The only way to truly switch off a PC is to remove the mains lead since the power supplies don't seem to have a switch any more. When 'Shut Down', they don't switch off in the literal sense we know and love, it's more like 'Standby' on a TV, which leaves power available to certain peripherals including the keyboard. The number lock staying lit is just one of those things sent to annoy us, like wasps and Simon Cowell.

It sounds like the PC has power over USB when powered off so you can charge devices over USB even when powered off.

I suspect that this can be enabled/disabled in the BIOS.

It is a feature, not an issue I suspect.

Does it stay lit if you unplug it and remove the battery.

Maybe check the bios settings for Num Lock actions.

I know how to get into the BIOS (F2 on start up) but where do I find the settings to disable this?

Little update-this is not a USB keyboard. It's a standard Dell PS2. Does that change anything?

Lights stay on on my keyboard PS2 and monitors when pc is shut down.
My solution was to plug everything into a multi socket adapter with a power switch.
Shut down the pc then hit the power switch to kill everything.

Mmmm, my light stayed on with the power lead disconnected too so it must be running off the battery. A little explore into the BIOS and all is now solved. I disabled 'number lock on boot up', so now when the PC shuts down the Num Lock light goes out too. Thanks for all the replies chaps/chapesses.
