clk 270
Driving home tonight from work and had odd loss of power foot to the floor and it barely picked up speed above 70mph 2000RPM. No cruise control on and in Drive (not accidentally knocked it down a gear). it felt like the engine was only responding to the first inch of acceleration depression after that nothing

parked up re-started and it felt OK in 30mph limit (revering well). taken it out an hour later and everything now seems OK push the pedal down and it will rev up easily to 3000rpm.

Is it just a case part A not communicating with part B switch off the engine and effectively it all re-sets

Any thoughts. Had the car 6 months never had it before. it's due next service in 6000 miles.

another quick question had the car 6 months never had to top up the oil the computer always says it OK. mondeo was 0.5ltr every couple of months?

Thanks for any ideas.

You say no cruise control on, did you inadvertently put the speed limiter on?

If you floor the throttle it overrides it and switches it off.

On the oil front, never believe the computer, it’s always best to have a look at the dipstick, the level needs to be on or just above the bottom mark when it’s cold and on or just below the top mark when it’s hot.

No limiter On. even switched on then off again to see if that made a difference (it didn't)

i didn't think there was a dipstick, Only what the computer says, i would hope there was a second sensor if it gets really low?

I took the car to an independent Merc garage and they did give it a good check over I have the bill to prove it but only normal wear and tear parts.

Odd why we like to see that oil level on the dipstick and don't trust the computer.

The on-board computer didn't flag any faults (malfunctions) which i would have thought it would do.

Another odd thing the other day unlocked the car and the radio came on without the key in the ignition. Maybe the cars possessed or it just wants a wash and it will be happy again.

Strange indeed, possibly an earth fault somewhere then, that's intermittent?

Could be anything really, possibly a good auto electrician might be able to find something, but only when the fault is there.

On the dipstick, computers fail, so do sensors, albeit occasionally, dipsticks don't, they just do what it says on the tin.
