5 miles took 4 hours with shortcuts over untreated roads coming out of glasgow city centre into the burbs

It would be quicker to Walk.

I got a message from LTD-1.8mpg over 1 mile. It was into the hours for him....

No wonder the fuel bill would be bad, its like heating a big house that car.

I took the train, first time in yonks, they did not clear the roads. Was a waste of time, went to work and 90mins sent home as the weather was bad, ah well, full days pay though...

Beginning to like the weather now!!!!!

I'm on leave this week :bannana:

Didn't bother clearing the snow

Oh and its going to snow again tongiht! great lol

Snow - slush - ice-snow :D perfect lol

Still not a gritter in sight.

Folowling Steve's post.

9 miles from Thornliebank to Cambuslang on what is akin to 'city streets'. 6 1/2 hours and over 7 gallons in fuel.

By the end of my run I averaged 1.2 mpg.

A friend left Glasgow lunchtime yesterday in a cab as buses were cancelled so work sent her home, 5 hrs later she was still 9 miles from home (Cumbernauld) her husband & his best friend went & met her 1/2 way back and 4hrs later they made it home, walked down A80!!!

Crazy weather, crazy conditions and so, so glad when I heard they were home safe.

After a week on the train (when they were running, the rest off work), i may try to drive to work tommorow if it doesnt snow tonight. i'll be heading into edinburgh....

Thats nuts , its -14 here just now and we havnt had a gritting truck anywhere near the house. Not that it would be much good with these temps but glasgow as a whole would be easilly negociated on ice skates right now.

Had to laugh when they abandoned the ice rink in george square due to health and safety issues. HELLO... just hand the skates out and let people do laps of the square lol

Good to see you posting again.:thumb:

Helensburgh to West end Glasgow, 1hr. Normally takes 45mins. Our roads are ok down here, but the East of the city is a nightmare. Folk in Motherwell, Cumbernauld, Rutherglen etc are having a helluva time.

I have managed to bin the commute this week and work from home. Took me 1 hour and 10 mins to travel from Larbert to the east side of Falkirk in rush hour yesterday morning. The main problem was trucks not being able to get a grip on the road.

What was apparent later in the day in the Falkirk area though, was the fact that some roads were totally clear of snow and ice, I reckon those were the roads where they had used the right level of salt, as opposed to just grit which seems to be the option to cut down costs and clears sod all on the roads.

Crikey. That is beyond awful. I hope you have had a wee dram on your return!

Not me, the OH and nieces/nephews in 3 cars.

About 4 hours Blackpool to 10 miles south of Hamilton services.
6 hours from here to A80 Muirhead.

Big thumbs up to the Crowwood Hotel for getting the blankets out and letting folks bunk down on the floor for the night. :thumb:

3-4 hours thiis morning from Muirhead to Stirling via back roads that were passable.

The Crowwood is where my friend got out of the cab & started walking! Sam's been out today & been into work in Airdrie only to find the water meter has fractured!!!

Some of my colleagues had to bunk down in the staff facilities at Glasgows finest 1500 bed public sector run hotel in Riddrie.
At least they didn't have to try the journey home.

A mate of mine lives in carfin and works at the tunnocks factory.
After work he couldnt dig his car out of the car park so he decided to walk home. Three hours later at the front door of his house he realised he leaves his house keys in the ash tray in the car..........
