Official Mercedes Rear Subframe Extended Warranty (Multiple Models)

To apply for a shelter accommodation in social housing, the minimum age is 50. I freeked out, when I heard my friend got a place. I just couldn't believe it, they also make exceptions to take on slightly younger than age of 50 based on health reasons I.e. mental health.

Looks like the younger DIY members are going to die then at some point earlier in life than? Would that be a true statement, I think I disagree 😁

^^^^ SAME ! An acquaintance of mine with zero health issues lives in what we all call 'the old peoples flats' I too was unaware of what I call young (ish) people could qualify to live in this type of 'council' property . He is probably the youngest resident in there buy about 25 years !

My friend is 49, secured an accommodation based on mental health grounds. The association do activities from seaside trips, knitting, yoga classes and Internet trainning but he doesn't take part and still very much young at heart. We supported him and helped him through a difficult time. Got him to apply for a garage space so he could carry on tinkering and DIYing on his car. Will encourage him to join forum, since he drives a benz. 😁

I used to thing 50 was old......now I'm 56 I've moved that up to 60.........! I appreciate that not everyone is the same. When I went to our class of 83 reunion a few months back, I thought Id walked into the wrong place....who are all these old people!??? Old looking, grey or bald, fat, all four! Now I feel about 30. I seem to have inherited my fathers age gene!.....not too grey yet (beard aside) still slim (ish!)...no major heath issues...still do the Great South most years. I realise that one major accident or health issue might put a stop to all that.....but I still look younger than most at that reunion!!!. My wife calls me childish like its an insult.....its not!!! Always remember (this applies to the above on the bike too)....its not getting old that stops you doing stuff, its stopping doing stuff that makes you get old. :) 👍

^^^ X2 soo true 👍

My S212 went to MB last week for a health check on the rear subframe as it came as an advisory on it's MOT.
No holes, just surface corrosion so wont be submitted for replacement.

You need to be careful.....that "blurry" rust is a lot more dangerous!!

I have it on good authority from my Indy that the rear subframe on S/W212 is covered on Mercedes 30 year non perforation warranty and will be replaced foc.

Even with patchy or non Merc history? Id like to think it would be as the subframe is not a service item anyway so no amount of servicing would stop it rotting from the inside......

This guy got his done for free on his w204, only had to pay for new bolts 🔩

Lots of people have had it done by MB, but it seems to be up to the dealer to decide and a few have declined. Chances seem good for a positive outcome but an 'official' MBUK line would be great and alleviate a lot of stress.

I think for a lot of people it can still end up being pricey as things perish such as control arm bushes and brake pipes, so MB can still hit you with a bill that you weren't expecting just yet.

Why would a dealer decline, no skin off there nose, they will get paid, also if a particular dealer, definitely says no, go to another dealer.

Some dealerships are now operated by agents rather mb. Collingdale, Stratford and a few I know are now part of Sytner Group. Hopefully they offer these kind of goodwill through mb, maybe need to put some boxing gloves on. When I had my Hemi, there was a recall on the front steering and passenger airbag and because Chrysler was brought out by Fiat, I found myself in a Fiat/Nissan dealer, Glyn Hopkin who replaced them free of charge. I didn't need to fight, they just replaced it. Not sure if it's the same principle, as cost of sub frame and labour time wouldn't be cheap verses say changing an airbag with 1 or 2 hours labour time and assuming this kind of work will probably need approval 🤔

Your Indy has zero say in matters between you and Mercedes, while his intentions may be good, Mercedes will make that decision, not your Indy.

I read on MBWorld W212 forum that MB USA has officially extended the warranty of the rear subframe to 20 years and unlimited milage on the following models:

C Class Sedan Couple (W/C204)
E class Wagon / Sedan / Couple / Cab (S/W212 and C/A207)
GLK Class (X204)
SL Class (R231)
CLS-Class (C218)
SLK Class (R171 and R172)

Here's the thread: W212 rear subframe extended warranty - MBWorld.org Forums

Has anyone heard of an official word in the UK?

Odd that the S204 is not covered?

The kit comes with a small pipe piece which can be inserted into any hollow hole. Should be able to spray a far amount inside as long the pipe end can be pushed through enough. When I do mine, will take some photos before and after. I forgot to mention, the downside is the liquid ideally should be reapply the liquid once a year but I'm okay with that as it doesn't take long. I was a bit dubious but it definitely not a snake oil product and will help prolong as much as possibly 🙂

That's exactly how you apply Waxoyl.

BTW, many years ago I used Bitumen undercoat. Not heard of it being used these days though.

At least one member on here who tried to claim the rear subframe replacement under the 30 years anti-perforation warranty had his claim declined with the excuse that the anti-perforation warranty only covers body panels, not 'attachments', which is what the subframe is. That been said, MB have been known to be inconsistent when it comes to responding to warranty claims.

Something like this product:

They still sell them buddy, saw them on Halfrauds. You just have me an idea💡

I may try Waxoyl for the inside hollow bits, assuming there are openings to get the pipes in as Waxoyl is more industrial and longer lasting and Lanoguard on the outside for a tidier appearance 😀👍
