Opinions Please Slk280 Or Porsche Boxster

Why not get a used R230 SL 350 rather than the boxster or the SLK. Sensible approved used low milliage cars are going cheap, and the qualities of the SLK are amplified in the SL car. The SL should be nimble enough for most tastes TBH.

I like the SLK, but with cheap used SLs you could have the daddy of them all.

a different view, what about a Honda S2000 instead? I always thought they looked good, they're supposed to handle well and they rev to about 9000rpm.

probably not too expensive... should be reliable...

I don't think I would put an S2000 in the same bracket but in the same sence they are more than an MX5..

I took one out at Two mills when looking for a Z3 and while yes it was like a go cart, and night rider inside it was a bit mad.

To get anything out of the engine you had to be in a gear lower than you would think and sometimes 2 lower, its got NO torque. while on paper it seems quick it didn't feel it. The brakes were great though :)

You are also limited with options it pretty much comes as it is (quite good) but no heated seats, Bose or uprated Hi Fi, sat nav etc.

It was nice and on a track would be great fun but every day I think would be hard work work getting any fun out of the engine needs 6000 revs then it changes from a granny civic to a mental touring car.

Nice car though, cheap, reliable etc

SLK - For: Looks, running costs (of the smaller engined ones), that roof. Against: that roof means minimal storage space roof down.

Boxster - For: That engine, that handling, that badge. Against: Image - boxsters are for hairdressers, Porsches are for bankers.

If you're going to do track stuff get the boxster. Otherwise I'd go SLK, and I don't see the point of getting the smaller V6 over the bigger one, no matter what the numbers say I'd guess the running costs in real terms are no different.
