hi guys,

was washing the car on friday and noticed that the lacquer on my car is pealing away! the car has not been in any accident or anything like that just wanted to know if its worth taking to my local dealer and seeing if they will do anything about it?

cheers
saddy

Hi, Saddy.

It's a common problem with the red ones!

Mine started too about a year ago and has progressively gotten worse. The paint is fine underneath, just the lacquer comes away very easily.

:(

really!? that's rather poor! i phoned local dealer and they have said to take it up at dinner. see what they have to say! the bonnet has started doing it too! :(

What year is the car, doesn't MB have some kind of paint guarantee if it is new and original?

it's a 60 plate car. full MB service history. i read online that they gave out a 30 year guarantee but you cant believe everything you read on the web.

True, I suppose they don't know if it has been accident damaged etc.... Worth a go though laquer shouldn't be coming off at that early age. Have you had it since new?

no mate, only had it 5 months. if that. i valet cars so nothing has touched it that i wouldn't trust. never been to a 5 pound wash with me anyway!.

i'll try get a photo of it and post it to show whats happen.

Be interested to see what its like, I know that Merc paint is very thin and pi55y compared to others but still shouldn't happen, especially paying all that money for a supposed premium brand.....

well just got back from MB and its booked in next wednesday for the photos to be took of the paint. its called micro blistering of the paint. There going to send the photos of and see what MB will offer. what the chap did say is they have just done 2 red ones full re spray under warranty so fingers cross! will keep this as up to date as i can.

Thanks everyone for your help! being nice as pie really does work sometimes!!!

As long as there's no obvious damage like stone chips (and obviously accident damage) then this should be covered under a corrosion warranty.

hi guys,

got the car to MB this morning not a good start! it was like they didn't know i was coming and have asked for the car over 2 days. told them i need back tonight which i do for work tomorrow as they had no cars available for me to take. hopefully this is not the start of things to come but we will see. Will post an update later when i get the car back.

Have you taken paint depth readings all over the car?, this will give a clear indication wether or not the panel has been re-sprayed?
Expect to see a paint depth of 4 to 5 thousands of an inch or 100 to 150 microns.
You normally see this problem on plastic panels, like the rear or front valence, I know some Audis have this problem but i was not aware of MB too?

I read that it's a common problem with red ones believe it or not.

The problem is MB can worm their way out of it if you haven't had your car serviced with them, or by saying the paintwork must have been mistreated.

Hopefully they won't though and you'll get it sorted.

hi guys....

picked car up Wednesday night from MB. they have put the paper work in for a full re spray. so just got to wait and see what MB say now.

anyone know how long they normally take to get back with the decision?

Guys
I own a body shop and there is so much that goes on at dealers even with unregistered cars. It don't have to be in a accident to have paint work. But nevertheless you shouldn't have flaky paint.

So car has still not been done. Had to get on the phone to customer service... which soon as I did I started to get answers. Should find out Monday when it's getting done thank God.
