Penalty for 154mph on A11?

As an aside, that stretch of the A11 is now a lovely bit of road since it was converted to dual carriageway. It's flat, smooth with very gentle curves and you can see for miles.

Perfect for a top speed run.

It's cut a good 10 minutes off my Journey from Surrey to Dereham when I go and see my dear old mum.

That would have to be one tuned Cupra to hit that speed, I can't even begin to imagine how far he had to travel to get up to 154mph.

That was my point Lee on my previous posts I had one and you couldn't get anywhere near that speed it must have been running serious boost and have travelled a long distance

I'm not convinced it wouldn't. I once reached a reported 150mph in a 328i Sport - and they were only 193BHP.

So that's 140mph if the speedo was that much out - I've no idea.

I reckon at a stretch - a Cupra R might touch it.

Do we know the offender's car was standard for sure - maybe a previous owner remapped...

We'll never know unless someone can try it out at Vmax... :bannana:

I know a (I guess) tuned Cupra R gave me a run for my money once caught off-guard when mine was standard.

It wasnt standard it says in the report it was modified so with serious boost it would do it.

Good lad bloody good effort in a Leon too. Good job he didn't have an AMG delimited he could have likely cracked 200mph. Maybe then they wouldn't have seen him :D

There's a bit of downhill stretch here:-

Our SL get's it's legs stretched on this road and you have to consciously watch your speed here. It's very easy to go fast in even a moderately powerful car.

Don't know which engine he had but our Edition 30 Golf (heavily tuned at 360 bhp) would hit 150 in the blink of an eye.

"He’s a got a modified car, I understand, but police are trained to pursue people and enforce the law at a high speed,” Insp Giles added."

Sounds like Insp Giles is Italian.

Mods could be anything - not necessarily a remap.

My money is on a standard Cupra R from 2009/2010 would touch 155mph.

Anyone know anyone with the same car running standard care to do time?

:D

That's the top speed of my W204. That's got 231bhp (almost as much as the Cupra, and the same 300Nm torque) and is undoubtedly heavier. I've been up to 135mph and it was still accelerating.

So I don't find it hard to believe?

The Cupra probably had a Revo map on it.

Drag and horsepower come into play at the speeds though, for a 300bhp car to get to a figure of 154mph (probably 170 indicated) takes a very big run.

Take a look at what "standard" 500+ bhp AMG's top out at, it'll be in the 170's,m I'd have thought, and once you're up there the bhp v mph changes drastically; I recall Captain Slow stating that the Veryon uses 600bhp to hit 200mph and then needs 400bhp more to go the extra 40mph.

He admitted and regretted.

He did not try and come-up with Mr. Loophole excuses that would bring about a lengthy jury trial.

So he deserves some leniency for that. Sounds about right to me.

I know that drag squares with speed. I'm saying that the Seat has very similar power to my heavier car which has a top speed of what he was clocked at and it doesn't take very long to get there.

Why are we all doubting what he was clocked at and his car must have had £xxxx of upgrades to reach? :dk:

I would think Seat Leon sales have gone through the roof, the motor of choice for boy racers and not expensive,I must admit it is a strange verdict, just shows you if it is your lucky day in the courts, maybe the police officer who caught you could get 6 months for impeding your unlawful progress

Rumour has it a stock E55K will just about wheeze up to 190 if both limiters are taken off.

Thinks: Why put in a second limiter at 184/186 mph (can't recall which) if the car won't go that fast anyway?

Most likely to do with the tyre rating fitted to the car as standard. I think 186mph is a speed rating "Y". Anything over that speed is a bit special and needs tailoring to the car.
