3 of my doors have/had rust.
One you could see the rust and spent a whole weekend sorting it out; stripping door back, rubbing down, treating the rust, priming and then base coat. the following weekend laquared and then coated the whole section under the rubber seal with dinitrol cavitiy wax and then brushed into the rubber seal more wax before putting it back on. this led to lots of running wax but a least I knew that everything was coated and also acted as a minimal adhesive for the rubber to the top of the door which keeps the water out.
The second one you could only see the rust when lifting the rubber, so was a fairly easy repair as was able to respray without affecting the front face of the door frame. Again same process as above for the wax.
The third door is in the same condition as the 2nd one was, but yet to be done due to the weather, work, family.
The forth door has no signs of rust but I'll wax up when I get a chance to help it along.
Is it actually possible for a 22 yr old to get insured on a Merc 320Cdi?
P.S. What did your father say to you after he extracted himself from the passenger side of the SL.

Only 4 of mine have rust!! How do you remove the rubber to treat the rust??
He looked pretty shocked to be honest, i was in my corrado at the time, he went straight through a telegraph pole and snapped it clean in half! he was joking about it but you could see he was pretty shaken, but he's all good now and got a much nicer SL after!
It is indeed, at a good price too! i've always had my insurance in my own name and fully comp since i bought my freelander when i was 17, so i have 4 NCB, only one insurer took the mick with a quote and that was Aviva (Norwish union) who quoted me £4500 a year! Im also insured on my families ML and my mums CLK 230k cabby - still waiting for the old man to put me on his SL, might be a while though haha!
