Please help a noob- SEC Gen 1/2 Question

Hi All

This is my first post after a lot of lurking. I am going to view a 1986 500 SEC this Sunday and am understandably excited.

This particular car is the exact spec I dreamed of as a kid.

A quick question, is this a Gen 1 or Gen 2. How do I tell, and how do I decipher the VIN?

I have done many searches and haven't had definitive answers.

Its Gen 2... not so easy to tell on that one as most of the features have been changed! But the front bumper is standard Gen 2 and so are the seats... and the fact that its a 86 makes it a gen 2. gen 1 went to 1985.

Switchgear also changed : Gen 1 cars have front and rear electric window switches in one combined unit , all switches have visible black plastic at each end of rocker ; Gen 2 switches are separate parts with no visible surround to rocker
