Has anyone used one of those little pocket diagnostic units that plug into the odb2 port to show fault codes and allow reset / clearing?

I know it's not Star Diagnosis, but I was wondering if they are they any good, particularly as I have seen various cheap units priced between £30 and about £60.

Hi aam

I have used them - they do work - but found them rather limited. I wanted a more intelligent unit, one that translated the trouble codes for me and did a few other things besides. I eventually opted for the Autoenginuity model which is an add-on system for my IPAQ PDA. It's upgradable and adaptable to other makes of vehicle.

If you do opt for one of these simpler units, make sure it is compatible with your car. There are 2 types of OBD connector in existence. You can buy an adapter; try ebay.

REGARDS Phil
