Polish/Wax compatibility all very confusing

W212 E350 SPORT 2010 Boxster S 2006
Up until now, having black/dark coloured cars, I had been using AG products as a matter of course. Started using Ultra Deep Shine polish a couple of years ago, topped of with HD wax.

I treated myself to a little 987 Porsche Boxster S this week, in midnight blue, having spent 18 months looking for the right car, I decided to look at the best AG products for this colour.

Lo and behold, UDS should no longer be topped off with HD wax, yet last year only Ultra Gloss Protection was said to be uncompatible ! So it seems that I have been wasting my time for the last year or so !

looks like it will have to be Super Resin Polish, topped off with HD wax for the porker and a soon to be acquired W212 E350 sport in Obsidian black....unless you guys can suggest better alternatives ?

If you are happy with AutoGlym products, then eh! stick with em mate, what ever works for you. The SRP will hide a few swirls for a few weeks and the HD wax will offer medium gloss and protection.
But in my opinion there are far better products out there, and they wont stain your trim white either!
The trouble is, and this is where detailing starts to put some people off, you use a POLISH to remove defects and a WAX to protect and give gloss.
On this basis I polish my cars with either the rotary or DA machine only once per year, after that I just wax weekly, simple!
So after polishing I will apply a good sealant, eg Gtechniq or say Jet Seal 109, the choice is endless.
Or simply use Chem Guys Backlight, which is ideal for dark cars, just on its own. Then again I may top off the sealant with a nice wax, I have been using Glassique from Inspired Automotive lately, this wax is almost on and off, no need to wait for hazing, so its fast and gives great results.
A good rule of thumb - you can apply waxes over sealants, but not vice-versa.

Good stuff, Thanks

To add and I guess its all a bit of a personal preference, I dont wax quite so often generally two successive washes then monthly for a while but after waxing I often go over with a good QD...Im using CG V7 at the moment but may try something else soon that I read of recently.

I am probably doing it all wrong, but I use AG Super Resin followed by the Extra Gloss. Then when I wash I use the Aqua Wax..... I wash regularly, and this keeps the car very shiny.

To be honest after polishing you should IPA wipe to remove all oils and polish before moving to a sealant or wax....

I would seriously look at auto finesse tripple and tough coat or sonax ultimate shine detailer over ag products...

just looked at the auto finessse stuff and its looks great, i normally just polish my car and thats it but can i apply this stuff straight after polishing it, would that harm the finish in any way !!

This information is a little wrong. Waxes and sealants only bond to a surface with polish or a pre wax cleaner fluid. IPA wipe downs are only a necessity when either paint correcting or when applying a nano/crystal lacquer/9h coating.

Keep it simple. For polishing the car use either poor boys black hole glaze (which is dedicated to darker cars & is an even bigger filler polish then srp) or chemical guys black light. Then if your someone who doesn't enjoy waxing there car every week, then buy Wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant. IMHO this product is easiest sealant in the world to apply and gives unbelievable gloss over any stand alone lsp I've ever used. You could apply to your whole car and even leave it for an hour after & it will still come off instantly. One coat will also out live one coat of most waxes and is a great protection to put over a filler polish.

After claying I've been using Autoglym SRP followed by HD wax, I find it confusing with Ultra Deep Shine, Extra Gloss Protection, which of these is best or do I use them all and if so in what order?

Confused of Tunbridge Wells :D

I think you can get hung up on colour specific products. It's true certain colours suit certain types of product better, for example it's often said whites suit a sealant better than a wax but it all depends on what you want in a finish. Plus it's more important to prep the car properly more so than what wax or whatever you put on last.

Polishing wise I still don't trust myself to machine polish so I use glazes.

When I do machine polish it will be something very, very mild like Poorboys SSR1, maybe DJ Micro Prime.

You can't really go wrong with hand application of AG SRP.

For what it's worth here are a few shots of mine, washed, decontaminated and then prepped with Dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite and then various waxes/LSPs...it was my first proper go a few months back and since then I'd like to think I'm better at applying waxes (less is more with hard waxes) and I've got one or two (or 10+!) more waxes since then!

MDC250. Shouldn't that be OCD25M?;) I mock gently because I am no better. Hoping to arrange some tuition soon with a pro detailer.

^ I use Auto Glym Super Resin Polish and Farecla G3 wax to good effect on my silver car.
Good value at Halfords at the moment with the 3 for 2 offer. If you haven't used one, get the Farecla G3 clay mitt as well to properly clean the paintwork before starting..

I'm a sick man.

Today through being bored and weather pants have been checking a few sites and so far today have bought and don't really need not can I really afford:-

3 x AF wax mate applicators
5 litres of Car Chem spray sealant/QD
Mesto foam sprayer which comes with 500ml of Dodo Juice Apple I Foam

I'll post a pic of the waxes to date so you can have a laugh at my expense!

Looks like I need to buy me some decent products. I have always used AG srp and megs gold class liquid wax. Never used a hard wax or clayed.
Just did a quick search online and there is a detailing shop less than 10 minutes away from my house called motorgeek, anyone used these?
I'm sure they will advise me when I pop in on Monday

Motorgeek has some really great stuff and is really helpful too, just take a load of cash as its all so tempting

Not as bad as I thought and/or I can't count...

The green one is a pot of Waxamomo Rugged Rhubarb and the two small pots of pale wax are Migliore Presidenziale for anybody interested.

Swissvax and Autoglym specialist polish for dark colors. I use on silver cls, as logic if its for dark colors needs to be stronger :)

Having tried a few I got good results with Pinnacle and stuck with it, that said I am almost out and may go for the souveran paste next......Pinnacle products dont always seem to be vogue IMO but i cant fault them.

How good was the beaver wax?

I had a free afternoon, so I decided to give the Boxster S a once over with AG Ultra Deep Shine then 2 coats of Farecla G3 Super Gloss Paste Wax. Wow what an easy hard wax to use, probably the easiest I have ever tried ! seems like you can leave it on for an hour or 2 and it still buffs to a shine with absolutely NO effort !
The car still has a few swirls after the UDS polish, but I`m happy with her for now. Farecla reckon their wax will last 6 months before it needs to be re-applied !
Will do my Obsidian Black E280 sport one evening this week, so she`s nice and shiny ready for part exchange in a few weeks.

Pinnacle products are well regarded as far as I understand, I'd like to try Souveran at some point.

Ha, not touched the Beaver yet ;-)

On paper it should be a good wax...it does smell fairly strongly of solvent but has high Carnauba content.
