Poss battery drain

You don't have to disconnect the battery.
The new siren will beep when locking and unlocking the car.
This has to be changed on star. It's a national coding thingy.
Apparently in the uk they are not supposed to beep.

I would have thought so, the procedure (AR80.50-P-9840P) is for all 203.0 and 209.3.

The procedure's modification notes state '"Disconnect/connect ground line on battery" removed 6.06.06'.

Just spotted yours is a convertible (209.4).

I can't find a specific proc in WIS for replacing a 209.4 siren, but the 209.4 specific procedures for interior sensor and tilt sensor replacements both have the same modification note entry '"Disconnect/ connect ground line on battery" removed 6.06.06'.

Thanks Terry, just found the national coding reference deep in the alarm diagnostics notes on WIS.

I will live with mine until its next service.

I like the beep....All fitted and beeping/chirping in the right/wrong places just have to wait and see if the battery sorts itself out now....Out of interest when i connected the new siren and put all the bits back together while lowering the car the alarm went off! Dont tell me thats wrong too?

Thanks for all the help guy's much appreciated once again.:thumb:

And hopefully this is the cause of the drain!

Cut open the Green shrink wrap on the batteries.

I take it that was the cause of your problem? My batteries were not that bad no rust just residue from the leak.

Tony.

Yes same as yourself, the all go like that eventually, at least it’s an easy fix.

Has anyone ever tried to clean up the PCB (reflow all connections with plenty of flux) and add a new battery?

Hi
I have issues with the alarm on my slk, if I disconnect the siren will I lose any other features.

Thanks
Jk

No, except for the flashing Red LED on the dash to show that the alarm is armed, that won’t show.
Unlocked the car with the remote, before you unplug the siren, that way the alarm is disarmed.

Tape up the alarm plug to keep it dry/clean as its live when the car is locked.

Once you have gone to the trouble of finding and removing the siren for £100 you may as well change it.

Just to say i think my new siren has sorted the drain issue it has not played up since and now spins over with gusto:thumb: Thanks all.

My new to me 1998 SLK has run fine for a month but tonight has developed a fault where it appears to be completely dead electrically. Started at midday when the radio forgot its code, reset and it lost it again an hour later. Arrived home OK, went to move it - Dead. No lights anywhere, central locking dead, nothing on the dash, won't start. Tried again...and it was fine. A minute later and its dead again. Battery reads 12.67v

I'd start by checking the battery connections are tight.

A good thought ! The simple things first... Off out with a spanner.

.....and heading out to check the terminals, ( which were tight) its fine again! I hope this is not the start of reliability issues.

Thanks for the help...

....and turning it off it does it again. As I turned the key past the point where the engine would stop everything electrical cut, all lights off, dash readings blank and nothing happens at all, all dead.

Dec, nothing works when its in this state. Completely dead electrically. Clock stops, panel readings blank, nothing from headlight switch or internal lights. When its "live" again the panels have remembered mileage etc but the clock shows 12.00 and the radio code is lost.

When/if you get power back, turn on the side lights and wiggle the wires connections/earth to see if you can recreate the fault. i know you checked but it all seems to be a lose battery connection problem somewhere.
