Post your Miles per Tank (overall MPG)

My trip back from Kelso to London last week in the W221

371 Miles - 26.9 mpg - 67mph - 5hrs 45 mins

That was the point I was making, the display is probably not accurate.

320 miles divided by 65 litres is 22.4mpg.

To achieve 33mpg you would only add 44 litres in 320 miles.
Or squeeze a further 152 miles (nearly 50% more!) out of the same tank of fuel!

Meanwhile I've just recorded a 445.4/59.88 and a 419.4/58.87 in the last couple of weeks, that's 33.8mpg and 32.3mpg accordingly. Not bad considering all the journeys were commuter-type rather than long distance.

When you read articles about LPG there is often an "equivalent mpg" used, bearing in mind how much cheaper LPG is compared to petrol. I made a note of the price of diesel when filling up and worked out that it would have cost me about 13p per litre more, that's nearly £8 per tank! If I'm getting an extra 7.7 litres of fuel for my money then an LPG-style "equivalent mpg" for my car on the last fill up is almost exactly 38mpg ;) .

Sorry, Shude I'm confused as to what you mean here. Are you saying diesel would have been more expensive or LPG would, or what.?

This tank seems to be going alright so far, and the car is on an incline reducing the reading a bit.

Took the ML again today, to get it a little closer to the next service whilst still covered by Service Plus!! ;)

Brimmed the tank last night, covered 343 miles, and brimmed it again tonight when the gauge was showing half full.

I used 44 litres which equates to 35.44mpg.

Remarkable IMHO for such a big car. Cruise control set to 60mph and average speed appears to be about 48mpg, made for a painfully slow journey, but a frugal one!!

Drop it off round here and I'll help you...No charge..

yippee, managed 38pmg today from home to warwick 70 odd miles. best during the journey was 41.2mpg, but the A45 really affected the result, turned off the aircon and sat at no more than 85 on the motorway using the cruise control.

return journey only got 34.2mpg. but had a bit more stop start on the motorway.

Did another 490 miles going to Bristol and Harrogate, but got bored with the very sedate driving and so accelerated around slower traffic, more like normal driving me in the ML. Final 140 miles being 'push-on' to get home after a long Friday, at the end of a long week.

Even so I still managed a calculated 31.4mpg between brimming it.

So by avoiding the accelerator, brake, and cruising at 60mph, I can get about 12.5% more miles covered per gallon than "normal" driving. Which makes it worthwhile when not in a hurry, but not enough to hold me back in a hurry.

That little bit closer to the service, without having trouble Dieselman following his kind offer!! I has meant that I've spent a small fortune on diesel this week though!!

 :D

I'm saying that mpg is a pretty useful measurement of economy but pence-per-mile is more accurate.

Tried a similar exercise in the C32 today - the ML is now closer to the next service, so it's back in Mrs D's hands. ;)

Managed precisely 31.0 mpg in the C32 today, on a journey a windy A-road journey of 96 miles, at an average speed of 32 mph. I travel that road regularly, and typically get around 26 mpg. That's an improvement of close to 20% - and a pleasant experience.

I was amazed - 31 mpg is excellent for such an engine on that type of trip - I've never even got close to that on very very gentle motorway cruises. Will struggle to better it I reckon.

Haven't tried the excercise as described in the first post, however my computer advises that the last 1250 miles since the last reset have averaged 27.6 mph and 34 mph.

This is in a Y reg E320 estate.

Why the change.?
Not Mrs D's Italian tune-up..

Something like that!! Strange how she always seems to have to go somewhere - other than school, supermarket, etc - when she's had my car!!??

When we were first courting and I was out with friends she used to come and pick me up early. I know, I know. I was old even when I was young!!

She loved seeing my reaction when she rocked up in my car.

There are some things you cannot do, and driving a man's car without consent - or at least a very nice incentive ;) is one of them.

One time she arrived in my MR2 - after I'd spent the day polishing and waxing it - announcing that she raced a Ferrari on the dual carriageway, on the way in to town. Turns out she really did .

I now hide the spare keys when I go out for the evening without her. ;) :D

once got about 45mpg on the trip computer on way back from Chester on M6 very steady 60/65mph max c180k sport coupe don't think I will ever see this again as i have put 18" wheels on 255-35 on back 225-40 on front.
it's only money(less MPG but looks much better) next time will fill up and refill after just to be sure.

Don't know how to work mine out but I am averaging 420 miles on a 62 litre tank which is costing me £77 (diesel) to fill from empty. I have to say I do get surprised that it's only just over 400 miles on average - I bought diesel so I would get more MPG!

My car is a C Class 270 CDI

Can someone work out what my MPG is from that?

30.8 mpg..:(

420/62*4.55.

You sure aint driving Miss Daisy, are you.?

See, something's wrong there then isn't it? I think I need someone to have a look into that....but I have no clue where to start! as a side issue which may or may not be related, it still chucks out a load of black smoke if you accelerate fast, which I'm thinking isn't right either.

Edited: Does anyone know what my car 'should' be getting to on fuel consumption....? Closer to 40mpg or more I would assume. And how accurate are the on board computers because mine says that I average more than 30 odd.

Car Make / Model: 500 SL 1991
Tank Range: (80/4.55*12) = 211 miles.
Fuel to fill up in Litres or Gallons: 80 litres
Actual Mpg : 12 mpg!

This is averaged over the last 18 months. Lucky I don't do many miles per year!

Usually between 450 and 500 miles from the E500. 85 litre tank and a refill is around the 95 quid mark. So that would be about 20p a mile.

Mainly country lanes although some motorway in there as well. Work from home so I tend to do the school run and occassionally pitch up at client site for a meeting.

But, when I go to see my brother in Kent - 180 miles and all motorway - never less than 32 mpg. Usually sit at 80 on the motorway.

Best ever was a drive to client site. On works time so not rushing, mostly 60mph and all motorway again, 37mpg. I was driving like a grandad though.

From a 5 litre V8 I can't complain too much really.

Since the B service I am fuelling up £70 ish and getting c.400 miles to a tank. V pleased.

C180K 2004 pre facelift.

Ok I have not done a long trip yet with my car ... Although Greece is coming in 3 weeks times.

On average I am on 23 to 24 MPG and this includes motorways and in town.

On motorways I do get 30 to 31 MPG

In town 9 to 10 MPG

Now range... depends I would say maybe around 300miles in mixed driving ... (88 litres tank)
