Hi

Has anyone ever changed the power steering fluid /self levelling fluid on a 1998 210 estate? Mine has 256K on and it is dark coloured and want to change it, have changed the filter in the reservoir but feel i need to change the oil.
What are the pit falls?
Where do i drain?
How do i ensure complete draining?
Is there a filling sequence?
How do i ensure all the air is out?
Do i need to bleed the system??

Thanks in advance,

Over to Andy_k. I believe he has a post somewhere about changing the spheres and bleeding the system.

my knowledge extends only as far as the W124 system but I don't suppose the two are that different.

The drain is on the self levelling valve - all you need to do is undo it and leave a bowl underneath

Refilling is just a case of pouring fluid into the reservoir, loading the rear (check your handbook for the required load - it's a minimum of 120kg in a W124) and starting the car

The system is self bleeding so as the fluid drops keep topping it up until it levels out.

Make sure you use the proper fluid which is only available from MB themselves

To drain the p/s fluid undo the return union just above the subframe and all the oil will drain from the reservoir, then work the steering from lock to lock with the engine off to purge the rotary valve and rack.
Jack the car up to unload the wheels for the turning.

Refill and run the engine and work the steering.

Hi

Thanks guys might look about doing this soon.
