All,

I've been tasked with identifying a suitable pressure washer for use at work (so not for a Benz!!).

I've a budget of £250 and need as robust a model as possible. Doesn't need to be anything fancy, just spray fresh and soapy water!

We only have a cold water supply available.

So, any recommendations will be appreciated.

TIA, David.

Electric or petrol?

Refurbished for quite a bit less here.

I have a Nilfisk C110, highly recommended on Detailing World.

Nilfisk great quality.

Yes, Nilfisk (formerly KEW) are good machines. I have a P150.2 with a turbo lance and it's pretty much as good as you'll get for under £300.00
IIRC, they are made not too far from you Jukie. :)

Over the years I've used all sorts of hot and cold, and mains and petrol machines and the P150.2 is all-but a professional machine.
The Turbo lance is excellent. LINK.

Don't fall into the PSI trap. Flow rate (minimum 9ltrs per minute in my opinion) is what counts.

Karchers don't have a good reputation. I personally wouldn't buy one of those.

Nilfisk. Good machines and peerless customer service.

Sorry but that's rubbish. Karcher have one of the highest reputations going. You won't see a Nilfisk anywhere near the marine industry - Karcher are widespread for good reason.

Actually you'll find the karchers do have a high failure rate around here and elsewhere so rubbish is a bit strong.

For what the Threadstarter has to spend, a 'Domestic' Karcher is what he'd get. Karcher wer once good quality machines but that was some time ago (at least as far as the lower end models go). As soon as they started selling to Joe Public from B&Q, Homebase etc, the corners were cut. IIRC the cast pumps became plastic and this caused a lot of the problems.

Of course, the more expensive heavy-duty models will be better, but that said, a bodyshop I use spent £1600 on (I think) the most powerful cold water model Karcher and after many problems with it decided to get rid of it.

Whilst I agree the very base models are made to a price, the OP would be looking at a mid-level water-cooled model for what he wants to spend.

For every poor review there are positive ones - to claim the entire brand has a poor reputation is still rubbish.

Have a look over on detailing world forums, its how many of those guys make a living. Karcher aren't well thought of there either.

Choose a model with brass pump, not plastic one...

But those positive reviews are on a Karcher Outlet website. They are hardly going to publish the views of disgruntled customers.
Also, the machine shown is one that has failed, been repaired and then offered for sale again?

I should think it's far better to look for independent reviews.

This sort of thing, mixed views here. LINK.

Not one of these people managed to leave a review on the Karcher Outlet website, though? LINK.

Thanks to all who have replied so far.

It will need to be electric and brand new. My organisation would not authorise a purchase from Ebay.

I would like to spend more than £250 to get as good a unit as possible. However in these austere times, I've been very lucky to be given anything!!

Jukie, your best bet is to plead for another £49 and get the Nilfisk P150 recommended by Ringway.

Will be getting the Credit Card out me self later! :D

Nilfisk P150.2-10 X-tra Pressure Washer - Nilfisk Domestic Pressure Washers - CleanStore

BTW Ringway can you get a Snow Foam attachment for the above machine or does what come with it suffice for Car cleaning?
