Private Number Plates!

I "made up" my plate and phoned dvla to ask if it had ever been issued. They said that no one had ever asked for it so no it hadnt......anyway i said can they issue it and i would buy it,they did issue it but said that it had to go to auction (on line) where i managed to win it.

I used RegTransfers when I bought mine and found them really efficient

Ah, but did you spot the catch...

If you mean you must buy their acrylic plates, yes... but as you have to buy plates anyway, it's not much of a catch... Unless I missed something else?

I bought my plates from Newreg about 8 years ago and at the time they were cheaper, by about 25 quid than the DVLA all in.

Regards,

Yes, it seems an odd requirement to me, but it all comes down to how much they charge for the plates, bearing in mind you get them at Halfords for about £20 a pair. But if they've actually saved you money overall, then that's clearly a good recommendation.

National Numbers have a similar thing going where they offer "interest-free" credit, but you have pay £39 for acrylic number plates plus a further £39 "assignment fee", neither of which is required if you just pay up-front, which makes it seem like a scam to me.

i have just purchased mine from the DVLA, but now need to buy the plates ... can anyone recommend anywhere? i was looking at simply plates.com and plates for cars?

thanks

If you get your dealership to make them up and ask them nicely, they'll probably fit them for free. Saves you messing about trying to get the holes in the right positions.

my nearest mercedes garage ? i havnt yet been to them as i havnt had the car long .... wont that cost a lot more than the standard £20 or so ??

Can't remember how much my last lot cost, but I think it was about £25. Mind you, I think Halfords fit stuff these days too, so they might be cheaper, but I prefer to have the supplying dealer's name on the plate as I think it looks more authentic.

+1 me too. Although it could be seen as advertising for the dealer, their plates look better. I think our last set was about £20ish. Now that the number plate manufacturers details are displayed on the plates I wouldn't put Halfords ones on my cars. Snobby? Probably!

+2

I think your local motor factor will just about the cheapest, but plates are quite pricey these days.

I doubt the dealer will charge more, and I actually like having the dealer's mark on the plates (and sticker in the window) - even better if it's the original supplying dealer.

free listing this weekend usually bring some plates up worth a look

ive been looking for W124 BNZ

I'm afraid that you won't find that specific plate as Z wasn't available in that style of prefix registration. They only appeared in Northern Ireland issue registrations or the current year identifier plates, such as LA60 XYZ.

thats a shame how nice would that look though..just perfect!

Have a look at this site they are cheap and quick I brought my plates from them and was really impressed with their service
www.no1showplates.com

some Irish plates also start with MEZ eg MEZ 1234 or MBZ 5678
