Problems after wheel alignment

I had my wheel alignment done on my W211 E Class due to excessive wear on the inside edge of the front tyres.

I had 2 camber adjustment bolts installed and 4 wheel alignment done. After collecting the car i noticed that the steeering wheel position was off centre. if i drive on a motorway the steering is approx 1 inch to the right so not level flat when going straight.

The car has been back to them 3 times and various adjustments done but position the same. On my last visit i was told to book the car into mercedes and have the steering wheel position sensor reset as this is what was causing the problem.

After having that reset at an independent specialist it made no difference and i'm now left with a car that although may not wear the tyres excessively on the insides anymore, but the steering wheel isn't in the middle.

Any ideas on what i should do as i believe the garage isn't actually able to rectify the issue, 3 vsiits to correct the issue so far!

This is down to the tracking adjustment being done unevenly. The garage needs to set the wheel straight and then adjust both sides the achieve the correct tracking.

It has nothing to do with any sensors.

I would be tempted to give them one more chance to get it right (after letting them know you know what's what!) and if they cannot take it to WIM and present them with the bill.

Hello Nav - long time no here!

Take it somewhere else - I'd not trust a place that didn't centre the wheel before starting on a 4 wheel alignment, especially as they've fitted adjustment bolts!

Who was it Nav?

It needs to be done properly. The alignment is out and can be adjusted and it has nothing to do with the steering sensor.

Hi thats the reason i took the car to Wheels in Motion, they are really nice chaps but 3 visits to rectify the problem isn't what i had in mind when i made the initial trip to them. And on top of that the problems still there.

I know you can't get it right everytime, but its time and money to go back to have it redone.

It is WIM who can't fix it???

Well its been there 3 times so far. They're not too local so i would have been back again, but can't keep taking time out of work so often.

What? WIM?

The only bit i wasn't happy with was taking another half day off work to get the steering wheel position sensor reset which made absolutely no difference. Apart from that WIM have been more than happy to rebook the car in to rectify it.

My concerns are, a) the steering wheel was centre before the alignment, and b) after numerous attempts to rectify, its in exactly the same position.

Yes, Wheels in Motion.

Same here.... 3 attempts and still ~20deg off horizontal. Drives fine but the wheel isn't level! That said I would still recommend them to sort handling problems.

Blimey, this cannot be good. WIM are held up as the bogs dollocks on here time and time again. I have spoken to the boss of WIM a couple of times and he knows what he is about and his customer service and feedback is very important to him.
So cue WIM any time now.
Whitenem - Have you got your little icon who is munching crips from a bag waiting for the action to start. I think that would be an apt post hereabouts.

Yes, steering wheel isn't horizontal but everything else is fine? Tyre wear, fine. No drift left or right. I just couldn't spare the time to take it back again.

No probs with the guys at WIM. They would have rechecked again if I had had time. Just not sure what's happening, it must be just a very fine adjustment.

Have you got the printouts of the alignment?

My guess says either the rear thrust is wrong, the front castor or camber are uneven causing pull to one side.

Yes, printouts show all within spec.

I'm back there on Monday, after some suspension work, so I'm sure it will all be sorted :)
