PROJECT: 190E V8 (3.8)

Ray, put Greame at the back of the list to drive will you, Ta :D :D

I think I have 2 choices when I come to insure this, ONLY driver or ANY driver

There wont be enough space on the form to list everyone individually.

Its been a slow week this week, working 12 / 13 hours a day because the muppets cant organise staff. Took delivery of all the lifting equipment last Monday but because of saftey issues and weather I have not had a chance to lift the engine. Its held in by 5 bolts at the moment and there is no way in Gods earth I am crawling under that car without someone standing there. My son is comming over Sat afternoon and has agreed to laugh, sorry, help take the 260 engine out. Then its all start again with the V8. Naturally pics will be posted and dont forget folks to watch eBay as its going for sale there next Monday, the engine that is :D

So who's going to make up the 3.8 to replace the 2.6 on the right hand side of the bootlid?

Or is it going to be debadged...

Good question!

Could easily source a 3 and an 8 of the same style I expect.

Ian/Ray - if you want to badge it you could ask V12 to keep an eye out for the numerals you need.

I'd be tempted to re-badge the boot:

It's going to be badged 190E 3.8
We already have the badges from both cars so some careful work with a dremel and it should look ok.
Still talking about a discreet V8 badge either on the front wing or the B pillar.

A soon as my ribs have healed.... fell off a ladder decorating and landed on a tin of paint. Not only does it hurt when I laugh, it hurts when I dont.

Just when you need a hand to twiddle spannes
And its you birthday tomorrow Arfur as in Arfur Centuary :D

An interesting day. Now the engine is out. Many thanks to my son Christopher who supplied some muscle (he thinks I am past it now  )
I will write up the sequence of engine removal at the end of this thread, along with the instalation notes on the V8. It wasnt as hard as I thought although the top two bellhousing bolts are what one could call ...."difficult" :( :( .

tee hee Ian,

you have two choices

1, paint it a nice colour before you put another engine in there

2, sell it to Howard

:D

Oooooooooh - young man .......... :D

Have you aquired the 3.8 lump yet? I've just bought a 380 that has 150k on her - the good thing is the lump was replaced at 79k (5 years ago) with a re con lump from Crewe Engines...............................

Aparently the box and engine are as new....

See the begining of this thread ;)
Pics in post #28

Well this was an interesting day.
After much sweating, cursing and blood loss the lump finally came out of the 380 today.

Whole new set of problems now though, the gearboxes dont match up. 2 choices now.
We can have a 20mm spacer ring made and put additional spacers on the torque convertor to match (will work but a tricky feat of engineering) and we'll have to use the starter ring from the 190 with the starter motor from the 380. But it will allow us to use the 4 speed gearbox.

Or we can use the 3 speed gearbox from the 380 which will be an easier fit with no major engineering work and will only need the propshaft shortening and balancing.

The thought just now is to go with the spacers as the 4 speed box has the kickdown and should give better accelleration and mid range performance which is where we want it.

But watch this space, anything could happen

I have send you some engineering shop detail Ian but if you decide to go down the prop shaft road I am sure I know a bod that can do that for us.
