"Projector" Headlights

I know I'm going to get slated for this but I've looked through past threads and am still puzzled. What are projector headlights. Are they halogen, zenon, krypton or what?!!! Are they an easy mod? Do they need all the bits that bi-xenons require? Are they worth the bother apart from appearance? Humour me guys and pretend you're talking to an idiot!!

Whether you can have projector headlights that are not xenons, I don't know.

Practically all new cars come with projector headlamps so your comment is officially what a colleague of mine would call "a load of Horlicks".

Read here, "projector" simply describes an optical setup (the other common one being "reflector"), and has nothing to do with bulb type:
