As title, want to put another long mirror where the short one goes.
I have the other longer mirror in my possesion and my car already has both mirrors electric.

I thought it would be a case of plug and play but it doesnt seem so.

The drivers side has the 5-pin connection but the passenger side doesnt.

I havent had a proper look as it started raining but how do i go about this?

Cheers

Won't this mod make it harder to reverse park?

Actually, iirc it'll mean you wont be able to see anything out of the nearside mirror as it'll be angled completely wrong for the drivers seat.

I think you'll quickly find there was good reason to make them different sizes. :D

I know there was a reason, but it doesnt look right to me.
Im pretty sure you will still be able to see out the mirror though.

if you look at the nearside mirror, it has a very tight angle against the car. You simply will not be able to coax the longer mirror into this position as it will not allow it.

I've never had an issue with the unmatching mirors, in fact I think they work rather well in this configuration.

I did this but the 'other' way. Had two large square mirrors. Got a passengers side from a left hooker from Mercman. Had to take out the electric mechanism cos, as had been said, the thing wont angle enough with it connected. With the motor gone the ratchet still worked and it then had a manumatic adjuster. (large thumb) :)
Also got a highly convex mirror glass from a Transit and got glazier to cut and polish it then stuck it on using double-sided tape. Excellent conversion and looks better imho.

Thanks for the comments fellas but im gonna stick with my idea. You learn something new everyday, which is why i love forums!

So does anybody know how to do this then? :p

dont W201 (190e)'s have passenger "normal sized" mirrors? maybe something to consider.... no idea if they are compatible with W124 but maybe able to use a combination of both to make 1 good one

or cant you get one from a left hand drive model?

Personally though, i like the original look.

W124 and W201 use the same mirrors. I've fitted a LHD passenger side one to mine to make them both small. Works fine, although I have a small paddy hopkirk wide angle lens added.

Been messing about with this more, and the pictures are below.

Using a longer bolt and two nuts, i managed to space out the mirror:

With this angle, i could now see properly from the mirror. However, it left me with this gap:

I tried on the rubber housing from the original stubby mirror but it didnt fit right at all on the mirror or against the car:

I then cut a spare piece of rubber i had and done this:

Im now planning to melt/bond the rubber together and it should then be a good fit. Will sand the joint after bonding it and spray the cover in black to hide the join and hopefully it should look good.
Will post piccys as i progress further.

What i dont understand, is why Mercedes didnt just make it like this in the first place :dk:

The optics are different for a reason. The longer rectangular mirror is for for monitoring overtaking traffic at a distance. The shorter square mirror is mainly for reversing into confined space and the optics are designed for this. There are 2 sets of electrical connections-- a 3 wire system for the 2 mirror adjusting motors and a slightly thicker 2 wire system to fit the built in mirror heater elements . Here's an out of focus pic-- the larger cut wires at the top are the heater wires

I suppose having a left hooker in this country makes that reason obsolete then seeing as how we overtake on the right lol
Cheers for the pic, helps make the wiring a bit easier.
