And are your rear deck speakers, like mine, and positioned what I would call up-side-down?

What I mean is they are unusually mounted with the cone facing down into the boot, and the magnet facing the sky?

I certanly see where your comin from Koolvin, I had a little look myself at how you get at these but couldn't see how but after reading your description, well thats why.

The price i've been quoted is all fitting included and the guy has asked for the car for a full day. He said he's done quite a few C-Class's in the past. When I go next week, I've printed your instructions off and I'll give them to him and say "just incase your strugglin to get at them I think this is this way"

The place thats supplying and fitting it all, Formby Car Electrical Services are a proper Car Audio shop and should be doing this kinda thing all the time. I expect that in alot of cars to get at speakers you have to go a long way around.

Thanks for the tip Koolvin it's much appreciated    <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

PS- i'll have to check on the way there mounted, the cone etc. I had the top mesh grill of the weekend, so I can easily check that.

The grills under the back windows just pop off if u want to take a look and you can put your back to the boot &nbsp;, bend the top half of your body and then walk into the boot to see them upside down from the boot too.

headrest removal is a ************* but im an exprt now and can do within a few mins... ive known poeople to take hours, days or even give up - but its easy when u get the technique

In W202, The rear deck contain or 3 speakers which are a pair 6.5&quot; mid range and 1 6&quot; subwoofer. The midrange are mounted regularly, but the subwoofer is mounted inverted(magnet facing the sky)

The 6&quot; subwoofer could help but very little. I don't want to spend the money if I were you <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> And plus if you still use OEM, the OEM head unit might not have enough power to drive kenwood subwoofer <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

Koolvin is right. Removing headrest is very tricky. Once you take out the rear seat you could see this:
clip1.jpg

The black clip circled by red lines are the clip to open or lock the headrest. There are two clips for each headrest:
clip2.jpg

And this is a VERY rough diagram I draw in less than 5 minutes <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
headrest.jpg

Let me know if you want more detail instruction on how to remove it <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Info on the diagram(i forgot)

As you could see from the diagram, the lock(in black color) need to be in beetween up or down to unlock the headrest feet. There is no clear stopping point or click that you could hear to notice that it's open. You need to do trial and error like putting it 45 degree and try to wiggle the headrest.

A help is recommended. With another person, you could ask your friend to play with the lever from the trunk and you could wiggle the headrest from inside the car.

I think their is a difference between UK (perhaps Europe in General) and US cars.

I only have two rear deck speakers, 1 left 1 right and they are both inverted.

Perhaps as Aletank says they are both subwoofers.

yes all the w202's after 1998 had 2 rear speakers... the ones before (like mine) had 4 <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

Oh and FORGET bose - today I installed BOSE's DADDY....

this makes bose look like a POS. This is such a quality amp - Geoff or V12 can confirm this <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

As you guys know I never got round to make my amp rack for my Phoenix gold 500.2 and it just used to roll around in boot - dangerous and theft risk.... plus makes car look shit

I made a amp rack - took me like 40 mins - &nbsp;I still need to carpet it - I think it looks fine!!! &nbsp;

Thanks for all the advice on removing the rear shelf speakers, but as I've said the Car Audio shop is fitting it for me. But after seeing whats involved I just hope the Audio shop knows and is able to do it properly  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>  If there doing these  jobs all the time on various cars they should have some idea, there was a fairly new Porshe and a 5 Series in the work shop when I visited, so they are used to working on prestige motors.

If you read the thread earlier on you will see I have already changed my head unit and i'm planning on putting a 4 channel 500watt Amp in powering the 2 front door speakers and 2 rear shelf subs, leaving my head unit to just power the dash tweaters and rear door speakers. Thanks for the tips/advice and especially those diagrams you gone to the trouble of doin  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

Oh yeah they are positioned upside down, I took the grills of before to have a look. Just finished washing and Turtle Waxing, started 2.30pm finished 7pm &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> &nbsp;LOL well worth it though till it rains &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> &nbsp;Price to pay for havin Black paint work <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

What you could do is get a component with passive xover, so you could power both dash tweeter and front door speakers using 2 channel. The xover will divide the power and cut the frequency for each tweeter and midrange.

The Dash tweeters and Mid range in front doors are wired together - unless you run new cable to them.

I made a lid for it <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I know on the last C-Class i worked on, 1999 C180 Sport, i took the subs out in 2 seconds, there was just 2. I popped the covers off, then from the underside pushed the clips through, and pulled them out.

Kenwood speakers are crap, their Headunits are good and their amps are average.

Clarions are much better though.

The Kenwood subs suck, you should have ordered the BOSE subs from your local MB dealer, better subs for less £...

Oh well, you will end up with a much better sound system than most people on the road &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Is this really true? I must try!

How come all the other peeps in the MB Internet communities think that you have to dismantle half the car (as per Koolvin's post) to get to them?

must have been a W203 - <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> Trust me I have taken my car apart more times than it's ever been on the road <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> however might be on the later w202 they can be taken out eaily... because they are upside down? <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>? |I dunno but ill let u know ASAP

Ive had a wee look before , the speakers look like they just push up. There is a small plastic cover on them &nbsp;, unclip this and take off the top grill and i don't see why not. There looks like enough clearance for them.

So how do you get the rear grills off? &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">So how do you get the rear grills off?  </td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'> They just pull off, there's little clips around the edges, If you can get a edge up slightly just work ya finger in a bit then gradually work around the edge, it may have 2 clips on each side. But it takes a bit of force but be careful u don't snap the grill. Gently firm pressure if that makes sense  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
