The main reasons why these “scallies” get away in chases by abandoning the stolen vehicles in high speed pursuits is because 1). they always go into residential areas that they know inside out and have pre planned escape routes from abandoning the vehicle so it turns into a foot pursuit, or 2). They will go off road into woods and the Police car will get left behind by having to back off so it does not get damaged no matter how powerful the unmarked Police car may be. Also, the pursuing Police car has to drive responsibly where the thieves will drive recklessly thus giving them a head start regardless to the power of the vehicle.

Well the ones round my area never drive responsibly , even when they are chasing no one. One pulled me over for attempting to speed. swiss toni shed some light on this please thanks

Copper: I want to talk to you about your speed.
Me: I was not speeding
Copper: I know that because if you were i would have been writing out a ticket to you right now.
Me : so why did you stop me for what i was not doing then?
Copper : I just stopped you cos your brake lights were coming on and off indicating signs of an attempt to speed.
Me : Hmm now i am being stopped for attempting to speed
Copper : Sit in the back of my car (vectra) please so i can check your details
Ok you can go now. Watch your speed (which i was supposed to be attempting)

Depends on the pills. Could be paracetamol.:D :D

Well I have opened a can of worms..... Merseyside Police didn't turn up at 10-10:30 this morning as they said they would, so I rang to ask why, giving the log no, I was told that if I wanted to take it further I would have to attend a police station and make a formal complaint - I told her that if it was a real Bobby on some sort of undercover job, then I wouldn't bother - However if it isn't a Bobby, then surely they should be looking for him - her response??? We can't do anything unless you make a complaint, and I can't confirm one way or the other as to whether or not the driver was a Police Officer!

FFS!!!!

Well, having had to make a complaint to professional standards 3 years ago (my partners ex is a bobby - been a pc for 13 years, no ambition, and had taken to parking on my drive whilst I was out - in his panda - what an idiot) So I am well aware of the formal complaints procedure... So I am gonna go for it..

As requested by Plodd, here is a pic taken of the car behind us..

Have deliberately left the No plate on show, as if it is a clone or police imposter, I feel peeps need to know....

This is when he backed off a bit..

This is zoomed and cropped from above pic (Handy having a 5megapixel camera phone :) )

Here is the car at the dealers a few years ago, just having been serviced, they had washed it (for a change) and I thought it looked nice, so took pics.. Notice original headlights - as they were when it was written off - the pics above show different lights...

And here is the GOOD side just after the accident - couldn't get to the other side as it ended up against a wall

LOL

No offence of attempting to speed (ie there is NO offence in law).

They don't actually have to have a reason to stop you - so yes, driving on the road is quite enough - and if they do have a reason ("I felt it in me waters Sarge") then they don't have to tell you.

Brake lights on and off suggests that you drew their attention (not any slight on your driving ability, you just stood out) like, for example, a drink-driver might or someone too nervous to have the "fine motor skills" required to drive a car smoothly (fine motor skills disappear fairly rapidly with nervousness, alcohol, many different types of drugs and in the presence of a BMW badge :D )

Sound like they pulled you to see what you were doing and then had a banale conversation with you whilst they checked whether you were who you said you were (and you were) and, well, you get the picture....

;)

No dis-respect to any of our members here who are Police officers but yes I often have seen marked Police cars not driving responsibly when NOT in pursuit/high speed chases BUT when it does come to high speed pursuits that is when they tend to “wet their pants” and reality hits them and they are not the hot shots that they thought they were BUT there are still some excellent high speed pursuit Police drivers out there though.

We have all driven XXXmph at some point and believe me it does get scary with traffic around and other vehicles getting in your way.

Many years ago I was stopped late at night in Kingston, driving home to Hampton Court.

"Good evening sir. I stopped you because I have reason to believe you are following a suspicious route."

  :D

Edit: that was back in the days when they did have to give a specific reason for pulling you over - even a daft one :)

What's the score with this, are police officers allowed to drive what I presume to be their own personal vehicles in this matter? The vehicle was unmarked, and he was not in any sort of uniform... Does the "POLICE" card thing sound right?

My passenger manged to take a couple of photos whilst he was tailgating us, and his face is clear to see....

Advice?

Mike

You appear to be suggesting that they are human?

Almost as if they are like you or I but in uniform?

This seems most unlikely....:D

I got that too - HOWEVER on the original V5 from when the car was registered, the colour is GREY - I know because I always keep a photocopy of Docs for my cars, and I still have this one... Also - Vehicle Type Approval - Null????

I think with the greatest of respect to everyone here, if it came to being a passenger in a car that was 'making progress' then I would opt every time for the Poilice advanced driver. They might well NOT be the fastest driver out there but it is far better to talk about how an idiot crashed whilst trying to evade somene, rather than exchange pleasantries at the Pearly Gates.

I laugh about brand X high performance persuit vehicles but it would be a very short journey if a driver tried to get tghe FULL potential out of a high performance car in an urban area, or country lane enviroment., Once speeds get excessive, I would suggest it is time to review the situation?

Looks light blue to me. Looks like the 1.4 lx i had in 2002 but mine was 4 doors from caledonia .

If it's been re-registered to obtain a new V5 then the colour would be declared at that point. If it's declared as silver then that's what goes on the V5.

From the picture and overall look of the car post accident I can't see how it would be Cat B, it doesn't look bad enough, in fact if it was just panel damage then Cat D would be closer.

Me i would opt for sebastein loeb or the STIG :bannana: :bannana: :D

I would very respectfully suggest to everyone that when carrying any type of goods etc where ever possible they try to secure them, perhaps even using the rear seat belts?? I accept in this case the boxes might well be empty, but if there is any heavy braking.........

Please don't think I'm nit picking, I just saw all those boxes and thought of the TV documentaries where we see unsecured loads moving forwards to cause harm to the front seat occupants.

Good luck with the complaint
John

Sebastin or the Stig are great drivers but horses for courses. I would LOVE to sit alongside the Stig around a race circuit, but horses for courses.
