Question for Plodd...

If it's a cloned car they're never going to find this **** hole anyway.
They would if it went through ANPR. Granted you'd get all the cars with the same plate but only one of them would have documentation to back it up.

You can buy fake warrant cards on ebay for £5

Or you could make your own better version with a decent inkjet printer and laminator.

Sounds to me like this guy is a menace and shouldnt be on the road.... or on the street for that matter. I suspect he is a "go where you likey" and consequently is NFA and basically untraceable and pretty much outside the law in its current form.

Shame on ebay for letting that listing run.
Totally agree, but perhaps typical of Ebay.

John

I believe you need both the reg number and VIN for an HPI check.
:) Thanks for that.

The poster obviously know the registration number but VIN?? I know I might sound OTT, and hopefully Pammy is right, the Police will show an interest?

Fake warrant cards on Ebay, how realistic are fancy dress police uniforms?

Am I right in thinking a police officer must be in uniform if they want to stop you?

John

I wouldn't have thought so ....

It would rather negate having unmarked cars wouldn't it ? with two plod in full uniform in the front seats ;)

Hmmmm , whats that behind me ?

Oh , just two guys off to a fancy dress party .....i'd best put my foot down ...

Hmmmm,
You challenged me to check.

I queried it because nowadays what is a Police uniform? Certainly not a tunic, nor in summer do they wear ties.

Over to the boys in blue

On the road
Police officers in uniform can stop any vehicle and speak to the driver. They do not need to suspect you of having committed any offence and may also require you to produce your driving documents.

if it is merseyside police that is investigating this case then i will like to see the outcome if there is ever any.
Does carrotchomper care to comment?:D :D :D :D

IF YOU ARE STOPPED BY THE POLICE WHILST DRIVING

It is important to remember that only uniformed Police officers have the power in law to stop the driver of a motor vehicle on a road. It is an offence to fail to stop when directed to do so. If an officer in plain clothes wishes to stop a vehicle he will have to call on a uniformed officer to assist him and actually stop the vehicle. Only stop your car if directed to do so by an officer in full police uniform.

BTW why bother with the expense of HPI. If you have the index and make you can see if it is a valid combination on the DVLA site . I think we can all be pretty certain that the VIN won't tie up with the vehicle seen.

Well, if they charged a stripper for impersonating a copper then this chav should get a trip to the nick.
Maybe karma well get him and he doesn't know his car is a ringer?

I thought they had caps for this. The plainly dressed Police put a proper cap on to get you to stop as that is their uniform.

Actually it is (unsuprisingly) not straightforward at all. Try this thread, which once you've waded through the HGV stuff becomes quite interesting on stopping traffic.

I see ...

So , people being pursued by unmarked cars , with plain clothes police in them , legally don't have to stop when they put the hidden blue strobes on ..... ?

So , on the motorway , when you get flashed and strobed by an unmarked Octavia , just carry on , as they have no power to stop you ? surely not ?

Do not ever stop for anyone who is not a police officer in uniform.
have you been watching the real hustle on bbc3?
Two people had their car took off them by fake policemen in plain clothes.
Another came to buy a car from a private house and before he could drive off, a plain clothes officer appeared arrested the seller who already had the money and seized the vehicle and drove off in it with the seller.
Leaving the buyer out of pocket and without a car.

Agreed but if the frequency becomes too much , like every week can you not complain about harassment?

Again I will cite common sense. I put that text in blue as I simply copied and pasted it from the Devon & Cornwall Police site.

I would be surprised if a peak cap constituted a uniform and in answer to Howard :) Unmarked Police vehicles on motorways usually have uniformed officers in.

Dare I say common sense is going to cut in here? If an unmarked police vehicle request I stop, (by whatever means) then I would stop, but I would expect this request to be made using the blue lights, headlights etc. Certainly NOT an idiot in plain cloths hurling abuse at me. If I stopped and was approached by someone in plain cloths, I would again use my common sense and consider driving off. Common sense must always be the order of the day, no doubt we can all say what if, but I thought the officer had to be in uniform and I am interested to hear what is deemed to be uniform.

A Police officer stopping a motor vehicle has to be fully uniformed in a unmarked car unless it is a member from a "car theft" recovery unit - but they normally to where body armoured Police vests" BUT they always call for uniformed officers to assist on the scene/chase and are normally in "high powered" unmarked cars for pursuits and not just your average car ie. Peugeot.
