Quick poll - saloon or coupe

Preferred Coupes until I was in my mid-thirties.... Saloons ever since.

My previous two cars were coupes but I have just gone back to a saloon as I got a good deal, but I do miss the style of the coupes. It really comes down to how you use it. As 95% of the time I am the only one in the car access to the back is not a real consideration but I wouldn't want a two seater sports car as that would restrict me to never being able to take 3 people with me. However, you will have to consider your changed circumstances and decide whether the problems of rear access are worth putting up with for the benefits of enjoying coupe ownership or deciding that family commitments will have to take precedence for a few years and you can go back to coupes when the kids are older.
I think on my next change it will be back to a coupe.

Hmm I may have to go down the saloon route until the newborn is a couple of years older and then go down the coupe route.

My only issue is and maybe you guys can help me with this does the saloon feel slower or less capable than the coupe when you are pushing it? I have driven the saloon but wasn't able to really drive as I wanted to because of a twitchy sales man.

Thanks,

I presume you are talking about C63s, no difference - my estate happily spanked many a coupe and saloon on the track!

Yep C63.

The car i have seen is a black 12 plate with PPP, 23k miles. Its up for sale at 36789 at MB dealer, although due to them offering a 2 year warranty on all used amg models there doesn't seem to be much room for negotiation.

Bit nervous about pulling the trigger but ive been looking for a while and cars for sale through MB seem to be around that sort of price and seem to sell pretty quick.

Is there anything I should be aware of before making the purchase?

Thanks,

Bought my CL when I had my first kid, now got two (one is 5, and one 2) and never had a problem putting them in the back!

Saloon / 4 door.

As Chris eluded to - you can get 4 door coupes!

Coupes are for girls and hairdressers. :D

Saloon (I chose a C43 as I needed four doors; couldn't see the mother-in-law climbing into the back of a two-door). Now, grim thoughts here, but I have experience of having to deal with RTCs and injured people. Trying to get a casualty out of the back of a two-door 4/5 seat car is a bloody nightmare, it involves a lot of cutting gear, which means you're stuck until the fire brigade arrive. If you're sitting in the back and want to get out, and the people in the front are injured/unconscious, you'll have to wait. In my view, every person in the car should have a door they can open and get out through.
Anyway, that aside, still saloon... ;)

You make a good point frostbite. You never really think of the worst case scenario it seems that the safe bet in terms of practicality are saloons can't help but have a soft spot for coupes though....decisions decisions....

I imagine lifting a baby into the back as they get heavier is not much fun in a 2 door...

Purchased my CL when my lad was 8 months old and never had a problem with getting in or out. I did however have to purchase a new push chair as the pram was too large to fit in the boot (the opening to the boot was a gnat's too small).

My partner has a 5 door Astra and I find it more awkward, having to lean across my lad to do up the buckle, where as the Coupe you stand more in front of the seat (if you see what I mean).
