Hi,

I just recently bought some used W124 Sportline springs & shocks, the shocks look like MB stock but I'm not sure if the springs are standard or whether they are uprated lower ones.

The springs are very worn to look at with only small amounts of red paint left, I can't make out any part numbers ect...

Q:- Are stock/standard W124 Sportline Springs red??

Thanks in advance.

NO they are black. Ventura springs used to be painted red--they were used by Bilstein for a while with their lowering kits. Eurocarparts use to sell them also but no longer. They sell Lesjofors now

So would you say the Ventura springs are lower & tougher than MB stock?

Ventura springs were used mainly to lower the ride height. I don't know how much if any they were uprated - probably equivalent to MB sportline---about 30% uprated from standard at a guess. They were not "heavy duty" in terms of increased load.

Yes, much, much harder than Sportline (even early ones). A bit lower too.

OK, I've managed to get some numbers off of the springs.

Fronts:- 201 321 12 84

Rears:- 201 325 10 44

I could be wrong but doesn't the "201" mean thier for a W201 model?:wallbash:

The numbers you quote actually correspond to the rubber spring pads on top of the springs not the springs themselves. The pads for the w124 cars are same as the ones used on the w201 series so these part nos are normal. :thumb:

Oh God! that would be why the numbers were writen back to front.

Ok, I'm going to have a little play about with springs... see which i prefer, I'll be fitting roll-bars in the next week or so anyway, could do 'em then.

Was thinking of getting some Bilstein shocks but member Niks has tried them with 40mm drop springs & is now selling/sold them. any idea??
