R170 xenon HID upgrade - what colour should i get

hello

looking at the getting a full HID kit onto the 170 slk

doing my research,

will be keeping the standard headlamps, but the standard illumination is very poor compared to modern cars.

with xenons, what colour would suit the model?

mines a prefacelift original, so 6000k or 6500k i think will look out of place. or not??

if choosing between 4300k, 5000k or 5500k, what would you say is fitting for the age of my car,,

i want it to resemble as original as possible, hence a blue/white light will look out of place.

and does the slk170 actually use H7 in the headlamps???

good question.. i dont know..

the research suggests mix responses, and seems to be subjective..

having seen many of these about, i am thinking it will pass, but some advice on this is sought now too

from my group buy thread a while back, you need headlamp wash and self levelling for these to be deemed as ok for MOT,

It does however seem to be at the discretion of the tester? as come winter you tend to spot all manor of cars some which would obviously never have had xenon's as even an option. Light blazing out in different directions blinding you.

I'm not suggesting you will fit a gazillion wattage system and chav up the slk but I would look into it to see if its worth it.

There are a lot of more powerful bulbs that would be a straightforward swap? the likes of Autocar will often have tests on the 'best'

thanks.. im looking at a 5000k 55w kit..

i am getting the car sorted, so in a week or two it should be almost as new

but i feel the headlights with current bulbs are a bit dangerous.. i will look at stock bulb replacement with a better aftermarket version.. any suggestions.. apparently halfords have a very good option

Headlight wash and self -levelling are a requirement for MoT. Of course there is nothing to stop you changing back to original lights for MoT.
