R171 SLK to get glass roof

As for the Glass roof - not sure - sort of gives it a rag top look, would like to see it from the inside and see/hear what it does to the overall experience of the SLK.

I really like panoramic glass roofs , im a total convert after getting one on my 5 series touring.

Really opens the car up. Hasnt the SL got one already ?

Its an option on the SL, for me it does not look right on a silver car , its just a heavy black blob.

The other factor yesterday was so nice with the roof down, and when I put it up it was nice to be out of the sun, I also find that in Summer, if you leave the blind open it gets too hot in the car.

The reason it looks awful in the last pictures is because the roof side rails are black too. With the roof side rails in silver it would look much better, with the rear window merging into the glass roof.

In fact one of the photos take from the rear shows that the rails are silver, but some 'black stuff' (technical term) is on it.

As long as the side rails are body colour it will look t'riffic

Yep thats right, the rails are going to be body coloured.

Glass roofs are excellent, I had one on my SL.

With body coloured rails I think it will look great on the SLK.

I posted this about a week ago the general feeling going around is because its a small car it now looks like a 2 tone car so unless you have a black car it could look wrong.

if they will only put keyless go as an option on the SLK (you can even get it on a Mini these days, and Mondeos too!!), and now with the panoramic roof, the SLK will be 'complete' .. in my eyes at least

with the 63 AMG engine, it will be irresistible

Yes, but Mercedes have resisted it.

The SLK could do with the that suspension system that the SL's have to soften up the ride to make it better IMHO. But that wont fit in it so they havent and with the sport suspension its just a bit too firm.

As also owning the R170 which has a stiff ride I resisted the urge to get the sports suspension and my SLk has a perfect ride very smooth and you do not feel most of the bumps, so answer is scumbag dont get the sports setup.

They say you can retro fit the glass roof onto earlier R171s but should be pricey.

Going to have to wait until 172 at least for the 63 me thinks.

Only thing with the pano roof is its heavy as hell and in a car that can actually take a corner at speed without ESP having kittens (rare for an MB) thats not so good.

Second that (Keyless Go) - and (duck, a flying pig) it is about time the DVD navigation system came down in price £2k is just too much (yes I know it isn't just a sat nav).

Yes but not by a stupid amount.

Its a very simple system and with the SLK only having 2 doors its even simpler to install.

Unfortunately its very unlikely that MB will offer it as an option, they can't eat into the SL too much.
