Radio (Fuse) C 180 Classic 51 reg

I am now fully stuck...I pulled Radio out with the tool but it looks like....Radio has got some sort of circular clamp which has got hole in middle... when I try to pull it out with tool...Woden texture facia also try's to come out.....to pull radio out do i first need to take facia as well.. if yes how is it secured ....is it secured by bolts...Its night mare at the moment...Please direct me in right direction ...............Please help

I'm confused, how did you pull the radio out if you did not remove the centre console cover? Is the radio an MB OEM radio? If yes, you should start from removing the cover (like mentioned in the pdf that was referred earlier), and in order to to this, you would need to remove the centre air nozzles.

I was able to take radio out and have found that Fuse at the back of Radio which is 10 Amps was blown.

I have Replaced the fuse.......and with fingers crossed switched on Radio...but with bad luck ..it is still not working.............. My Radio is mercedess factory fitted one

Any idea whats next...which I could check to make it working. Fuse 7.5Amp in trunk still blows when I try to put new one...I have wasted 5 fuses till now....on this fuse

I have checked fuse in engine Bay = which is Ok
Fuse on back of Radio = which is Ok

Whats next ?

Do you have a multimeter to check if you actually have power at the rear of the radio? Use a small bulb if you don't have a multimeter.

Is the radio completely dead, no lights etc. or is it just silent?

Do you have an additional amplifier (sound system)?

The rear fuse should be your problem only once you get the head unit up and running as it should not power the radio.

Radio has also got a CD Player which works fine...I can play CD but when I try to swap over to radio.....I can hear no Radio channel... its just gives me sound like SHAAAAAAA SHAAAAAAAAA in speakers....If I use small bulb ...will I be inserting wire terminals in place of fuse... to check...power...

Forgot to mention one thing...i could listen to one channel on radio couple of days back but very week ...now i can't hear any channel..CD player works fine....Could anyone help please

A little confused now...

Are you saying the radio works but does not receive any stations or is it complete dead?
Is the CD part of the head unit or is it a CD auto-changer in the glove box.
I would assume if you can play CD's then the head unit has power but no signal.
I assume you checked the aeriel connection at the back of the unit when you had the radio out.
This can only mean that your antennae is either broken or has become disconnected.

Yes Nibbo,

player in my car plays CD..when I TRY TO change it to Radio..it does not receive stations...I checked wire behind the unit when I pulled it out ..it has radio wire connected at back......

Now where abouts is the antenna

Is it a sloon or an estate?
On my estate the antenna is built into the rear side windows with a signal booster in the headlining I think!
Not sure about the saloon.

A little confused now...

Me too, I thought the radio was dead but now it seems it does not read stations. But if the antenna amp fuse was blown, it should not receive anything else than perhaps an extremely strong/local station.

The FM/AM antenna and antenna amplifier are at the rear window, electronics behind the panelling. The owner would likely have to reach these parts to see if there is a short circuit or something like that (could be a loose connection but that would not blow the fuse).

Don't feel sorry and don't leave us with nothing to do at Christmas time. :)

I cannot even figure out the wire location, looks like too heavy for antenna amplifier or such. Did you figure out the colours, the photo does not show well how big the actual wires are.

If your doors work from close, you would have an issue with the amplifier, interesting if you got some channels, perhaps the FM amplifier is still not working either. I'd suggest looking at that.

DB,

This wire is in LHS Rear wing. Its going down to Wheel Arch.

In Regards to FM AMP where will it be.. Could you please confirm location..
I have already checked one Antena which is in Boot Between Car Seat and Spare Wheel..I have checked wires all looks ok to me their.

Same problem (almost)

Hi All,

Resurrecting this thread, as it's pretty much my problem too.. any advice would be much appreciated.

2002 plate C230K. Key fob central locking and radio packed up simultaneously. Dash switch still operates locks and radio still plays CDs, it's the 'reception' that appears to be the problem.

Fuse 8 (7.5v) found to be blown... replaced, blew immediately. Tried a 10v, which also blew immediately.

Popped in a 30v which has cured both problems.

Clearly I don't want to leave the big boy fuse in there though...

What would you do next?

Hi Dec, thanks for your reply.

Alarm is fine.

Remote door locking and Radio reception are fine too. In short, I've fixed the problem.. but only because I've got a 30v fuse in there. As soon as I install the 7.5v, it blows.

I'm expecting things to get a bit heated if I carry on with this over-rated fuse?!

What does fuse 8 protect?
Alarm by any chance?

Dec

Various things, according to my little fuse map.

Can anyone confirm that keeping an over-rated fuse in place is a bad idea, or might I get away with it for now?

If the alarm is one of the consumers on fuse 8 then unplug the alarm siren for a few days and replace the 7.5amp fuse, if fuse 8 stops blowing then the alarm is likely to be faulty, the alarm might seem to be working ok but the do give trouble when the get to about 10 years of age, if you have the original alarm siren then its now 12 years old.
