Apologise if this has been posted before, which I am sure it will have been.
I have bought a new plate for my SL500 and want to be able to cover up the metal cross head bolts which fixed the last one, and will fix this one. I have looked at both the yellow plastic bolts you can buy, but they have a different thread and the cover for the the self tapper style are much too small.
Any ideas please.
Thanks

What about a number plate holder?

Hi, These are the type of things that drive me mad as well, i thought i was nuts but want things right, before you drill holes in your new number plate drill the holes in a different place, then you can use normal screws with the covers. Put a little bit of rust preventer on old holes and cover with a bit of tape, so no water can get in. Or if no one comes up with anything go to you local model shop you can get small tins of Umbrol paint and they wont notice, good luck.

Cheers Both. Trouble is I got a bit keen and drilled the holes already!!. Looks like ill have to make do with the bolts and get some umbrol paint .....

Can you not just buy some nice stainless screws?

Tony.

I had the same thoughts/problem when fixing new plates and if these are the same as the ones I tried, they aren't big enough for the original MB screws and the screws they supply are self tappers and not big enough for the original machine thread holes. :dk:

It took me a whileto find them, but these screws below are an exact fit for the original machine thread holes. Halfords have them for £1 59 for a pack of 6

Thanks for finding those screws AMGeed. I need some period looking fittings for the 250.
