Hello all, thought I'd post a request for info.

My C220 seems to have dropped at the rear of the car. Was driving back from Sandringham on Sunday to Peterborough 5-up, when there was an almighty thwack from the offside-rear, a noise like a spring hitting something hard. There was a loud bang also.

Sufficient enough to make me stop in a layby and investigate. The car looked level, although still 5-up it looked very low but I didn't think too much more of it at the time. On arriving home, once the car had emptied it looked ok, but seemed low at the rear. Having seen other C-class on the road since Sunday, and from what I recall of what mine did look like, the rear of any other W203 saloon seems to be kicked up making a wedge shape of the car towards the front. This seems the normal shape.

Right now though, my whole car is level, looking odd, as if the back is 'hanging' too low. It's also making suspension/spring like clanging noises over bumps and on bends.

It's now booked in to the dealer to look at but I thought would post this if anyone is aware of what may have happened?

Cheers everyone

Yes, am guessing as such. Having done a search on site, I found this link http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=16172&highlight=spring which may suggest something similar.

Any other thoughts gratefully received, but suspicion seems to point at a broken spring I suppose. Labour rates might be the issue at the main dealer, may therefore get the work done at a specialist.

Ok, new springs needed! Not in stock of course, so being done next Tuesday.

Dealer also stated I needed oil seals replaced on rear diff, at £370 +VAT!! Hold on a mo I said, you replaced those under warranty in February 2005! They said they'd check. Rang me back. Oh yes, we did. They need doing again ( ) but I don't need to pay.

Lucky I had the warranty invoice copy to check, as otherwise they'd have stung me for those. Don't they check these things first?!?!?!

I guess the seals weren't fitted properly the first time  perhaps they let the saturday boy do them ?

I have a set of used c36 springs for sale if you want to replace all springs?
