could anyone tell how to unclip the rear seat cushion from the base please on my w124 saloon, ive been trying to press the small red levers but it is not working.

Try pressing down on the seat base while moving the levers

tried it, doesnt work. am i doing the right thing by pressing the red levers in towards the base?

Yes you are. Give it a sharp upward tug after you have pressed the levers in. They can be tight.
