Rear wheel mount on ML W163

Hi

As you may know, I'm hunting round for an ML W163. I've found a few where the price has been lowered on those with the external wheel mount. I personally think they're WAY too bulky....can they easily be removed?

Look at it this way... IF someone wants your vehicle bad enough then they will get your vehicle! Also, if they really wanted just the wheels then they would remove all five (including the spare mounted on to the tail gate). Don't let that put you off from buying a vehicle with the wheel mounted on to the tail gate is what my point is.

On Sprinter vans the steel spare wheel is to the full same spec as the wheels fitted to the vehicle and is located underneath the vehicle by the rear cargo doors. A lot of them go missing when the vans are parked up and it is the gypos/pikies that target them (especially on a Sunday noon in business parks where Sprinter fleets are parked on business premises!!!

PS. Same also applies to lorries which are a even easier target!!!

Gucci. I take it you mean removed by the owner - rather than a thief?

IIRC there are cutouts in the bumper - not sure though. TBH there are so many without the carrier, you might be better off just finding one without - but still at the right price.

The ML's with the external wheel carrier should have upgraded rear shocks to counter act the weight of the ML wheel and tyre (try picking one up!) Check that its a standard fitment, if not make sure the upgrades have been done, as the rear bushes go on the ML quite often.

No worries Flash. Could've been worse. You could've read it as 'wanting to mount the rear wheel on an ML'... that would've spiced things up a bit
