As i am waiting for my sl500 (1993) to be delivered, i was wondering what classic car insurance members here use and could recommend for me? :)

Hi,

As mentioned try Peter Best. I don't think they do a discount for the MBClub UK forum but they offer 10% discount if you are a paid up member of the 'official' Mercedes-Benz club.

IIRC membership is around £30/year so the membership pretty much pays for itself - and you get online EPC/WIS access, discount on parts from MB, a monthly magazine plus a periodic 'Mercedes-Benz Classic' publication two or three times a year :)

I've insured my 968 with Classicline for many years, has to be a second car, well worth an inquiry. I get discount for my PCGB membership, think they gice discount to other car club members.

peter best 1500 1997 10k in agreed value £200 pa in london garaged overnight UNBEATABLE

You still need to shop around, a standard policy (with low annual mileage) was cheapest for me last time I looked at classic ones. Bear in mind that you usually don't earn NCD on a classic policy either, which can be an issue if you swap to a more modern car later on.

Been with Peter Best for years for my classic car insurance. Always competitive, helpful and friendly and excellent when I've had to make a claim. Can't speak highly enough of their service.

In my situ a standard policy would be always about 140% more than a classic one.

I can't believe people are even discussing this on this thread. You all know insurance relies on so many different factors, so cost comparisons between them, are specific to the policy holder and the policy holder only.

Nothing to be alarmed about whatsoever. As a rule of thumb a classic policy will majority of time be cheaper than standard. There may be " many different factors" but most of it comes down to where you live. for a standard policy.

You couldn't be more incorrect. Insurance companies risk factors are not just "where you live". They rate on the time of the year you're buying the insurance, how long you've owned your vehicle, now many miles you do, how many insurance claims there has been at your address (even before you lived there), how many claims your neighbour has had, how many claims they have from the make and model of your car. The list is not exhaustive.

No two people can definitely compare their insurance quotes with eachother. Yes, you can often work out which companies are ripping people off, but sometimes there is more to it than the car you are driving.

OP. Make sure you shop around with all difference policies, checking the service they are providing you in return for your £££.

I beg to differ.
If you live in a safe postcode then those other risk factors come into play(only age , claims and occupation in that order -none of the others you mention are factors tbh) .If you are in unsafe postcode those risk factors don't really come into play-as you're raped no matter what.Everything starts from the central point of postcode and is worked around that.
A 17 yr old new driver in safe postcode will pay same or even less than a 25yr with max driving experience and bonus
A unsafe driver in low risk area will pay a lot less than a safe driver in high risk area
Most drivers who claim they live in high risk area are in fact medium .
Put it this way a safe area will get you a C63-the same premium in unsafe will get a c180
I compared 2 quotes for me and in only a 4 mile distance the difference was an incredible 125% -see the importance of the postcode?
2 of my friends have virtually same risk factors .Mr Jag XK 4.2(300bhp) pays £100 LESS than Mr Zafira 1.6(105bhp) and they live just 4 miles apart .See again the postcode factor?
Anecdotal but still hard(and shocking) black and white figures -even if you will disagree

Yes, address is taken into huge consideration, not just the postcode. Your address is made up of many different variables.

You're also not taking into consideration the occupation of the drivers, the age of the vehicle and their annual mileage.

Someone who drives a c180 100,000 miles per year, COULD pay the same amount as a driver of a C63 who only does 5,000 miles a year.

I feel you are not taking into consideration, that insurance quotes and policies are specific to YOU, and everything about you; if only they rated on incompetence.
