Nothing wrong with Pagid, we use them day in day out here at work,... no problems.

Totally agree, Pagid race in MB & Audi. Normal pagid in rest of fleet and fit loads of them at work, brilliant performance and value for money, much better than EBC Green red or Yellow IMHO

I accepted those ones because I knew they were another reputable OEM brand , all I can say is these ones squeal while the previous two sets of ATE ones in this particular car never did . Discs are also ATE , put on by myself when I bought the car 3 years and 40,000 miles ago . The discs look fine .

No discernable difference in braking performance between the Pagids and ATE - just this squeal .....

I've just replaced the front Discs and Pads on my W209 CLK 320 (52 plate). I ended up buying genuine parts to ensure that I had no problems fitting them. Got all of the bits from this place:

Mercedes-Benz Parts, Inchcape

I feel it is only right to say that the service I got from them was fantastic. I bought 2 discs, 2 sets of pads, 2 bolts and a fuel filter. Domenico was the chap who delt with my order, top notch. I ordered 2 sets of pads by mistake (thinking the price displayed was for 1 set). Domenico was on the phone to me 1st thing next morning to say he'd cancel 1 set of pads and refund me - without me even asking!! The bits arrived next day by parcel force. I received email confirmation from parcel force and a text message updating delivery details - fantastic.

When the bits arrived I was very surprised to see that not only was everything there, but they had thrown in a brake wear sensor, 2 clamps for the fuel filter, a 13mm screw clamp and 2 disc bolts, F.O.C!!!!!!!! I got discount online and also a further 10% by using a 'promo10' code. In all I paid £221.42. (Discs £93.60, Pads £48.51, Filter £39.89, bolts £2.52 - Plus the VAT)

Excellent service and delivery, highly recommended for genuine parts.

Noticed that the pads were Lucas (pagid?) marked up Mercedes. They came with new metal holders and a sachet of brake grease. All fitted perfectly.

Oh, on the down side, It looks like I'm about to enter into the murky world of torque converter problems. Looks like my converter is goosed. Droning noise at around 35 mph as the lock up engages, then drones under load. Not happy as I've just had an expensive 'B' service carried out where I asked them to change the ATF oil. Fromn the invoice it appears they only did half a job as I was only charged for 4 ltrs oil and 1/2 hr labour. I cant say for definate if the fault was there before as the radio always drowns it out. Spoke to Ollie this morning and will hopefully be arranging my 1st visit to Horndean soon to get it looked at.

really starting to go off this car now as both rear arches are showing signs of rust, along with little spots in various other places. Its only done 51k with full MBSH bar the last B (specialist). Lets hope Ollie restores my faith in the brand.

I priced up a front and rear set for a member on here last week, most SLs will be different but I hope this helps

All parts are Pagid (OE Quality)
Pads:
Front - 101220738 - £46.99
Rear - 101220358 - £26.99

Discs -
Front [standard] 104220838 - £39.00ea
Front [Sports pkg] 104221098 - £52.00ea

Rear [no choioces] 104220478 - £31.80ea

Thats a total of:
£215.58 (less 25%) if it has standard discs
£241.58 (less 25%) if it has the sports package

My 2003 C320 has worn front discs, they have about 1mm to go before being at the point of needing to be changed and the pads are well under half the original thickness.

My MB specialist recommends Mintex but I would be happy to hear from anyone with experience (good or bad) of other brands.

I am also unsure of the front disc size as I have seen various sizes listed on websites from 288 to 300mm, is there a chassis code somewhere that will tell me or is it a case of measuring them?

I have changed discs and pads before and am happy to do so, are there any things to watch out for and any special tools required? A "how to" guide would be very much appreciated is one exisits.

Thanks

Hey

hi

Discs A2034210512 £37.45 + Vat Each

Pads A0034206020 £38.85 + Vat

MB OEM.

Thanks acid

Push the pedal harder

Different pads are not going to make the car stop quicker

how do the increased braking pads work then? Genuine question since I thought you traded increased wear on both disc and pad for better stopping ability.

You can have the world's fanciest brake pads and discs, but the limiting factor is the tyres. They're the only bit of the car in contact with the road. If your best stop from a given speed is 300 feet with 'standard' brakes then that is what it will do with any brakes. 'Race' brakes can repeat the feat more frequently without fading, but if you want a shorter stopping distance you'll need stickier tyres.

Exactly. If the existing brakes can lock the wheels (and, barring mechanical fault, they can) then what do you gain from "better" pads?

I can see the argument for harder pads with a snappier bite - in the right hands they'll make the brakes feel "better" but they won't be - they'll just be snappier. What you're doing with harder pads is moving the compromise from the MB-standard soft pedal, good modulation, quiet operation compromise to a harder pedal, faster attack, poorer modulation compromise. Whether that's "better" depends on you

I can say that, in my experience, aftermarket pads on a W124 are always worse than MB pads. Worse in that they are difficult to modulate, initial bite doesn't follow through with consistent retardation and the braking process is markedly less progressive

I'd be the first to admit, though, that a W124 is hardly representative of modern MBs and drivers of modern cars may prefer a snappier pad response - particularly with UK city & motorway super-aggressive driving styles

Does anyone know if the front discs/pads are different on a 124 E320 cabrio to other 124s? Phoning around for prices at the mo, and my MD doesn't keep them in stock, but does so for others.

I list them all the same - the both have the same choice of either Lucas braking system or Teeves

On a W124 the difference between MB pads and aftermarket is night & day. I wouldn't ever fit anything but MB pads on a W124

For stopping power go for brembo solid disks and ds 2500 pads :)

I fitted mb discs and pads at 133k and have now done 195k pads are all less than half worn

You mustn't use your pedal much :p - Only joking!

The good news is that all OE quality pads, will wear at the same rate with only a tiny (+/- 10%) tolerance from the factory fitted pads.

Its a shame for really old vehicles, whose brake pads now a-days have to be modified to not brake as good as they can - so they match the performance of the original setup!

I put EBC green stuff on mine and pagid discs. Better bite and hardly any dust at all compared with one day of being clean I had with Standard.

£250 all fitted :D
