Help!

Like an idiot ( ), I tried fitting the antenna lead to the rear socket of my new APS 30 head unit to make sure it fitted correctly before I installed it all tomorrow. Now I can't get the bu**er out

The plug has 2 plastic clips which I would assume just squeeze inwards to release the plug. However, no matter how hard I pull (within reason - I don't want to damage the socket on the back of the head unit  ) it just doesn't want to release. There seems to be about 120 degrees of 'twist' on the plug, but it is simply not pulling out regardless of which position it's in.

If I were to place the sensor end under the instrument cluster (which seems to be the preferred way on here) then I could have left the entire lead where it is. However, I didn't really fancy having the cluster out, so intended running the lead within the passenger footwell and then up the front pillar, fixing the sensor to the top of the windscreen on the passenger side. However, by leaving it attached to the head unit, it will be impossible to feed it through as the sensor itself is quite big.

Anyone got any ideas...............please :D :D

Cheers,

Alex

Sorry guys & gals,

Now you got it out, you can still put it under the dash out of sight, put it above the left hand side of the top switch panel, theres a nice place you can velcro it in there and it will see through the top of the dashboard and out of the winscreen - save it being visibly stuck to your windscreen !!

Thanks for that Richard :) Unfortunately, due to the heavy rain we have here in East Anglia, the job is on temporary hold. Tomorrow's forecast is looking grim too

Your recommendation is an excellent one - I'll have a rummage around above the switch position once I have everything out. It will obviously be much better to hide the antenna if it's possible. I just didn't fancy having the cluster out  .

I may need your input again soon! I have a brand new Bose Amp (part # 203 820 13 89) which I intend to install at the same time as I upgrade the speakers in a few weeks time (yes I know....dash out again :o ). I'll obviously need the correct interconnect lead from a dealer, but I'm not sure how I hook up two (CD changer also present) fibre optic cables between the three components as there is no loop through on any of the them  . Also not sure where the OEM fitment goes  - the base is approx 200mm x 100mm and has pre-drilled holes in each corner, looks as though it bolts in to a pre-defined position somewhere.

Anyway as I say, that's another job, another time!

Thanks again for your input on what I've managed to-date.

Malcolm,

Thanks. Extremely useful links. I think the cable harness shown shown on the r/h schematic (part # A2035403509) is what I need :bannana:

Also, position of the Bose amp is shown as boot mounted (but that's a coupe shown - assume it will be the same on a saloon).

Thanks again. I'll let you know how I get on in due course.

Update - APS 30 install

Just a quick update here to say that everything went well (apart from removing those damned airvents again  ), and all seems to be working okay.

I even flash upgraded the software to version 9 thanks to some help on here :bannana:

I actually mounted the GPS antenna just above the l/h side of the instrument cluster. There seemed to be a nice sized gap just big enough to get the sensor in using strong double-sided tape. I'm picking up 7 satellites, so I'm pleased that I didn't mount it on top of the dash after all :)

Thanks again Malcolm for the great idea!

A couple of folks have asked how easy it was removing the instrument cluster to position the GPS antenna.

Well.......I didn't (see post below).

Here's a piccie of roughly where I stuck it under the top of the dash ('X' marks the spot'). There's just enough space in there to clear the l/h side of the cluster and the r/h side of the air vents when they are replaced. No metal in sight, and I'm picking up 7 sats on average, so it seems an ideal position :)

Cheers,

Alex
