removing gear knob on a W202

how do you remove the gear knob on a W202 with an autobox? Does the whole thing twist off or do you have to remove the collar at the bottom of the knob first? I didn't want to force anything in case it broke.

Twist the collar anticlockwise thru 90 degrees. The knob will then pull off. The twisting may require quite some effort, so don't worry.
