Hi guys, this is my first post so hello everyone. I've recently bought a 2000 C220 cd and overall very happy with it. I'm trying to fit a aftermarket accessory and need to gain access to the light wiring. The wires i need are behind the light switch/dial however having problem removing the switch. The haynes manual says to pull off the front knob, but this seems near impossible, can anyone offer any advice? Many thanks Paul.

Hello Paul, sorry I can't help mate, i am just saying hello to a fellow Cornishman..

Grip the dial and give it a firm tug. It will come off. By pulling the knob off you wont get access to any wiring. The whole thing will need to come out for you to get access to any wiring. To get at the wiring, the trim panel in the center console will need to be taken off.

What do you need to do to the wiring?

thanks for the reply momomo, the switch i'm talking about is the one on the far left just below the drivers air vent. Its not on the centre consol but below the pillar. Operates, headlights, fogs.

Oh! I get you now, light wiring as in the wiring for the lights!

You mean far right?

Far right, dont know why i said left....doh. Is that a screw holding the light knob on?

no its a bulb!
you will have to really yank it
if it hasnt been off before it will be tight!
then there is a 20odd mm bolt that holds the switch in place!
IIRC you will also have to D/C the level switch wich has 2 airline attached!
i didnt find the to easy to get off!

I found it easier to put the light swich on side lights and then pull it out for the fog then just a quick sharp pull! once its off you will have this

as you can see the bulb is there

IIRC you can also get to it from underneath
if you remove the plastic panel under the steering wheel!
what are you installing?

Installing auto lights on/off.
Do i need to remove the knob to get the rear wires on the switch?, i removed the 2 screws on the underside of the unit (by the handbrake) but the switch still refused to move.

nice mod!
have to let us kno if it works

hummmm
you might need to remove the bolt behind the knob

also that diagram up there isnt for your model!
you might have to remove the tweeter and the air vent there might be some more screw
on top of the switch plate!

EDIT: there is no screws at the top but i think its held by the bottem of the heater vent! so the vent will have to be removed and the tweeter!
