Following dvb247's recent thread on retro fitting the gear change paddles in place of the stock OEM buttons to his E55 steering wheel, I find myself inspired to get these fitted myself. Paddles are with me tomorrow, but am concerned about removing the wheel, and the hazards its removal brings, should I give local MB £100 to remove and replace the wheel, to be safe, or is its removal very straight forward, that even I could remove it. Any help appreciated.

Ricky, disconnect battary, leave for 5 mins, undo airbag bolts, carefully unlock and release airbag connectors and other plugs in the back, once airbag is out then remove the big hex bolt for the steering wheel and wigle steering wheel off... job done... or your welcome to pay me half what mb want and i`ll do it for you lol!

its the cutting etc i wouldnt be sure of, i still think the steering upgrade to is a better option!

Thanks for the offer Alps, if you lived closer I'd take you up on that. As you say I could change the whole wheel, but as you may recall I have that flat bottomed alcantara covered wheel fitted, and quiet like it, so I will hopefully retace dvbs path and get the paddles fitted, albeit it will be a long winded affair in the event that they should go faulty anytime!

Hi Ricky, i forgot you had the alacantara flat bottom steering wheel, go for the mod then.

i was joking abt charging you, id have happily done it for free if you were nearer!

tbh its a cosmetic thing for most.
