Respray the stretched limo

Asking if it was the inside or the outside that wanted painting and which way up you would like the paint wouldn't impress me. :)
:D :D There is a tatty cloth bag (supplied by Ratcliffe) over the hydraulic ram boxes for the stretcher lift. They are offering to make plastic covers. This cloth bag is on the underside of the vehicle but can be seen by following vehicles and it looks horrible. :o :(

The vehicle has black rubber seams between the large body panels (I had never noticed) but when he phoned I put up a picture on my PC. They are offering to colour match them but didn't know if I wanted to keep them as they are. :)

Like I said.... Very impressed

That means they won't have to mask them off so it's easier for them. Will they be guaranteeing the paint stays on the flexible rubber strips?

Don't get me wrong I think it's a good idea, just that it's no good if the paint then peels.

Still think you should get the bumpers done darker as well.

Great minds (well yours is) think alike. That was my concern and one that I expressed.

Thanks very much for darkening the wheels. I think it's easier to picture it on the darker red as opposed to the much lighter blue?

I've always been accused of having a vivid imagination, but it is definitely letting me down at the moment ;)

I am very much leaning towards this configuration, but am still trying to imagine the same thing with the darkened centres?

These are genuine Mercedes-Benz Sprinter alloys.

You wouldn't paint the centres black on those as they don't have a rim as such.
Although those wheels in black chrome would look classy.

They look better as they have more fill to space ratio.

But this kind of wheel would look good due to the flat face and proper rim.

If I were to black the wheels, then it would be done on the original steel wheels, but at present it is not something I can imagine.

I think the rear wheels on this doctored van look wrong?

Just a thought

I think they look very good and suit the vehicle.

Just found a site that supplies commercial alloy wheels and has a configurator page HERE.

The picture isn't a Sprinter but what it does highlight is that you need a lot more metal to space for vans, more spokes is better.

Select the van in Intense Blue and put the first wheels on, I think it looks good and certainly a lot better than the five spoke designs.

Those wheels look like the OEM wheels someone had on a blue W202 C class. Cant think who.

It would appear to be a good week for folks doubting me.

The wheels I am leaning towards are the only alloy wheels supplied to Mercedes-Benz for their Sprinter vehicle of my era.

The attached photograph is scanned from their latest catalogue. We scanned the image of the wheel, then shrunk to to size before getting a tyre company to fit the correct tyre   (that bit is a joke)

There are two wheels, the left side one is for the Vito, the right is for the Sprinter. I have NO idea whether they would or could fit a 202 era C-class?

Regarding the configurator you kindly posted, that first style is too spindly for my own, individual tastes, we found a similar link this afternoon.

Thanks again

Is that directed at me, If so I'm not offended but am a Little confused as I haven't raised any doubts, just choices.

From the Sprinter catalogue I like option 1 better, more metal. Just re-read and see they are for Vito.

My comment about someone having wheels on their W202 was because the wheels they had were similar to the first option on ht eSR wheels website. The ones I liked and you didn't.

Who would have believed a Mercedes forum could have so many posts about a Van. It could only happen here.

Regards :)

Many apologies the written word etc, etc.

I thought (WRONGLY :o :o :o ) that you were suggesting the wheels I had selected were from a 202? Many public apologies

Not necessary John.

No problem...:)

I'll try to find who it was. It was a nice light blue w202 with later wheels on, somone who then sold the car...Hmmm..

I've got a feeling it's ADY and the wheels are on the Carlsson.FOUND IT

Yup,
Especially to those that answered back. :)

He taught me to always admit your mistakes and APOLOGISE when your wrong.. Something that management should perhaps be aware of?

Like you I have concerns over this strip and voiced those when I spoke to them. This morning I got back to them just to emphasis my already expressed concerns. They are adamant the new paint will not crack, or seperate and on that basis I am happy for them to go ahead.

This is one of the strips we are talking about:

The reason this black rubber looks slightly grey is because 'the boss' has problems removing the wax\polish from it. Having it the same colour will be a huge benefit and make polishing so much easier.

I will definitely be chasing up the bumpers and what they might have to offer? I wonder if there is some sort of conditioner that will restore the plastic, or will the sun have done the deed and also bleached the plastic? Blooming sun!

John

John

Once bleached by the sun, any restorer only last a few days, if you want them sprayed the same as the body, they only have to add a flexi agent to the paint as use a plastic primer.

Thanks very much for that,
Now you have opened up another crate load of confusion :o:o To spray, or not spray,
Tat is the question,
But what is the answer.

I'm just wondering if colour matched bumpers would look naff?

Thanks for the good news though.

Spray them grey

Spray the wing mirrors

Why not take a look at the vans run by big outfits like Harrods etc and look at the colour combinations they use, they spend a lot of money on this.

Like a good house never use more than 2, I will join the subject and post again after number 473 when some more ideas come in
