Rust pics, can this be treated?

I thought that it was around June 2006 that cars were supposed to be fixed which leaves mine in the previous category. Is there hope despite not having FMBSH of getting it fixed under warranty due to this 'known fault'?

I did read on here that MB publicly announced that all cars affected before this date would have work done to rectify the problem unconditionally but have not seen this in writing from MB directly.

Our 2005 W169 so far has had 4 doors together with rear sills and boot lid replaced by MB. Touch wood no problems getting the work approved.

Sills??? I thought it was just the doors and tailgate that were effected...this gets worse and worse.:(

Early cars had wrinkly seam sealer, later ones, smooth.

My tailgate has the wrinkly seams, does this make a difference to the warranty conditions?

I think you need to treat the rust before waxing it. You can try a 'rust converter' product.

In the past I've bought aerosol kits from:

Rust Proofing Products | Rejel Store

Personally I'd also grind off the outside rust and paint by hand. No one will ever notice.

When I had my first cars... Mini's and metros / 205 etc...

I used to wax oil them underneath, we had a mate who worked for the council and he let us use his 'pit'

Great drive car over, get in pit with bucket of wax oil and paint brush and slap it on :)

Duplicate post. Whats going on.

Can someone delete these please.

Yes. Go to your local dealer, the car should get a successful claim.

Thanks, thats very interesting. Is this unconditional and regardless of service history? Is there any information I should go in armed with so they dont try and weasel out or would a dealer not care as MBUK would be footing the bill?

Also I have a £400 rear spoiler permanently attached to the tailgate, can I expect them to fit a new one if they replace the tailgate as this was bought as an optional extra off the factory line.

If you don't get it done by MB, consider drilling some extra drainage holes in the base of the panel before treating. Drill one under the rust too so you can get in there easily with some rust treament (Phosphoric acid) prior to wayoyl injection. If you're anywhere near Shropshire I've got a Shultz gun, compressor and a bit of wayoyl left over from doing my landrover chassis but you'll have to buy me chocolate cake or wine, either works as well :D

Would the rust be likely anywhere else or mainly at the bottom of the tailgate? It is noticeable there because the two steel panels meet closely whereas higher up there is a gap. Logically the rain would run down to the bottom so Im assuming that this is where it will be but just wondering if it could be higher up, undetected.

Treat with Built-Hamber cavity wax
