Hi

Does anyone have any tips for rest repair on a metallic paint car. Mine is silver and all the wings and boot edge have surface rust. is it possible to get the paint to blend in. My touch up is the correct code but looks quite different and also the painting is so obvious. Can I sand to two paint together for a better overlap and then lacquer?

Cheers.

Hi - Guess you could but to be honest it all depends on what you want the finish to be like.

Don't know how old your car is or it's condition but if it were mine I would be taking a trip to the local body shop for a quote. That way at least it should be a good match and have a good finish on it.

DIY will always show on larger areas so it depends on what you expect the outcome.

I have similar on my passenger door, looks like a stone chip or a Supermarket Trolley battle scar and its been touched in horribly by the previous owner.

I think the only option for a proper job, as already said, is a good bodyshop who will be able to "blow it in" well. ie. gradually make the transition between the existing paintwork and the new stuff - so that it doesn't look like a different silver and is very visible!

silver is a nightmare to match. Even if it looks good from one angle it might not from another. Best to do what you can and live with it if you are more interested in stopping the rot than anything else.

That said, some touch up pens are better than others...
