One of these, the driver's side, is in a terminal condition. The curved triangular mount is on the point of coming away from the chassis. The chassis "looks" okay but only once the joint is cleaned up to bare metal will all become clear. I am thinking that if the rear subframe/axle needs to be dropped then it would be worth getting all 4 mounts "cleaned" up.
I am interested in getting hold of the details of a garage/welder within Greater London (preferably the NE,E or SE) who has completed such a repair before.
It's quite urgent.
I don't want to scrap the old girl yet 250,000 miles - all else is fine at the moment - last major bill as 18m ago new water pump..
The car is currently at one of my usual garages - Motoraid in Hainault - but they have no experience of making such a repair and I would rather go with someone who doesn't need it all explaining to them.
If possible I need details by Monday, Tuesday at the very latest.
Hints and tips gratefully accepted, as would ball park costs of those who have had similar work done. Note: I have seen some useful photos and notes from someone called Andrew and SilverSaloon - so will be printing these and taking to the garage once the Motoraid body shop inspect it. However, as said, I'd prefer someone with direct experience of such a repair.

I have a chap in Hove who will repair these

Nick Froome

Can you pm me the details please Nick.
Frankly, I'm prepared to travel if necessary.
Hove isn't that far from E London.

If it's only one of the front mount's that needs doing, you can get away with just lowering the subframe at the front. It's normally just the mount, not the chassis rail that rot's away. So you can clean up the rail, and fold up a new mount from sheet steel.

i've rebuilt two of these from scratch and repaired one bad one. Rebuilt them on the car with the subframe dropped at the front. You can weld in new box section piece by piece this way, I had some of the old bracket to weld to which is useful on the rear of the box.

I modified mine so the access hole for waxoil is at the front of the box rather than the rear so it can easily be filled with waxoil in future too.

I dropped the entire subframe because its no biggie to do that but the benefits you get access wise are worth it!

I would just like to close this thread by saying that the contact that Bolide gave me was excellent. Left the car in Brighton at the workshop. 3 hours later collected it. Simples.

Hello

Sorry to hear that DIITRICH. I really wished I would give you advice ,but I would recommend that you get your vehicle checked up. There is a great site called Car Service | MOT & Car Repairs | Local Car Garages & Repair Deals. It will introduce you to a network of acclaimed garages. Its just a question of typing your registration number.

Hope this helps
