S211 passenger seat adjustment for better load space

Hi All - Have had my E220 estate for a few months now and have tried adjusting the rear seats to make them upright to increase the usable load area without folding down the seat backs. Based on the handbook, I should be able to release the seat backs and push forward then pull up the release catch a second time and they lock upright when pulled back to an upright position - but they don't! Have I got it wrong or is this another +£ option? TIA

its only slight. and uses the same u bolt thingy to latch
