Can you help the rear doors of my 1994 S320 Limmo won't open. The buttons go up and down with the remote locking as they should but the doors remain locked from the outside. My local MB dealer said they need to take the trim off the inside of the door, it will then need replacing - £460 + VAT for the trim and pocket + labour +++++. It has to be some electrical malfunction surely.

Sounds like they are having a laugh...

Disposable door cards in an S class? Never heard of such a thing.

I cant speak from experience but I'll eat my hat if its true.

Name and shame that dealer!

They are not disposable, but if they cannot open the door then they will have to damage the door card to remove it...
Sometimes the closing aid part of the locking mechanism will jam on after it has 'sucked' the doors in...

Find an independant merc specialist and see what they suggest, many knows tricks that MB do not themselves!

Ricky

Does his model even have closing aids ?

The inside door panels need replacing because the panels would normally be removed when the door is open, as neither of the back doors will open one of them has to have the interior trim panel ripped off, or so they say. My question is really has anyone experienced this problem, all parts of the remote locking process appear to be working properly but the door remains locked. Yes it has closing aids.

If you could push the door in further against the latch then maybe this would take the pressure off the self-closer and cause it to release. Get some-one to lean hard against the door while you operate the lock and handle??

Just a wild stab in the dark as I don't know how the self-closer works, but gotta be worth a try before handing over £500-odd.

frog1520...all W140's have closing aids...

Euromoto...exactly what i said...

Nickmann, it's unlikely to work, but as you say worth a try!

Silly question, but have you tried pulling the interior door handles?

Is it worth taking the battery of then reconnecting it see if it resets any electrical glitches.

Or, give the door a hard thump in the lock area, this worked when the boot lid on the SL used to get stuck.

Ricky, what kind of closing aids do you mean, the type that suck the doors closed?? Coz we have a W140 S280 and ours don't close like that, unless that means they are faulty.

AFAIK, all RHD 140's came with it, we have had a couple of LHD's very early cars that didn't have this.

P.S. Don't quote me on that!

Just checked and it wasn't standard on all models, only on V8's and obviously the V12...All facelift vehicles have it though...

So yes, his may not have it!

If BOTH rear doors are stuck, I would have a look at the closing assistant pump in the trunk left hand side or check the pneumatic tubing between the pump and doors before starting to tear the door cards.

Closing assistant pump is not to be mixed with the central locking pump which resides below rear seat, right side.

I do not have closing assistant either, it was an option.
