Service costs...

The E240 is due a B service with plug change. Also needs ATF. It is at 69K and I am totally besotted with it - drives a dream (as TrapperJohn will attest!) and certainly worth giving much TLC

Guy I know is a mechanic at MB and does work in the evening at his mates fully equipped garage. Been quoted the following:

B Service and plugs: £424 with OE parts, £361 with non-OE parts
ATF oil & filter change: £120

This prices sound good? Also, he says that he'd happily use non-OE parts on his own car. Consensus?

Prices sound very good, and when it is that low, why scimp on the quality, go original

One thing to ask is what type of spark plugs he will use. Non OEM might mean cheaper shorter life plugs? Make sure the ATF change is a "total" one- not just the box. A proper specialist will use an ATF change rig to completely change the fluid as it needs to be "pumped out" to get all the torque converter fluid out

Dunno really, hence the seeking of opinions. Sure someone will be along shortly to enlighten us

Sounds dear to me for a foreigner we used to charge £299 + VAT for the B service on this car.

The ATF is a good price but as mentioned as long as he is doing the torque converter too as that where half of the fluid is we used to charge £165 + VAT for this.

I think the quoted price seems fair including the plugs, I think 12 Mercedes plugs are over £100 without any labour.

Yep that included plug change, we used Denso twin tip platinum's unless customer spec'd MB parts, £35 for 12 trade.
