Setting Idle on 1982 w123 280ce....

Hello,

I'm just wondering how to set the idle on a 1982 w123 280ce, it idles way too high, however once put into a gear it seems to then idle at a normal level. Hope this isn't a big problem. I've read somethign about a knob being behind the dash??

Any help would be greatly appreciated, plus im picking my girlfriend up at the airport in around 2 hours...a high revving car maybe classed as a serious threat outside an airport

Idle air valve or air leaks. No knobs I'm afraid!

If you look across the top of the cam covers , towards the air cleaner , you will see a small indentation in the lower edge of the air cleaner box , about halfway along and just above the left hand cam cover : insert a longish flat bladed screwdriver here and you will find the idle adjustment screw - as Jay says it is an auxiliary air valve .
