morning

yesterday spent 3+ hours cleaning the exterior of the car.

i've strained my damn shoulder in the process!!!

i'm at my girlfriend's parents house today, not an ideal place for DIY as they seem to have an allergy to it here.

so, shall i rest my buggered shoulder and do the paint next weekend? or get out there today?

yes its a rather odd/pointless question

I`ll be doing the same thing next week but since the weather it`s not the best,i`d say leave it for next week

you doing that at home next week?

I'm thinking of going to Pit Start garage, raise the car up so it's easier to spray the arches.

Might see your bodywork guy beforehand, or have a chat, and try and get a rough quote.

At home of course as one day i`m of work,is hard to find time.Is best if you show him the car before the quote, and give me a shout when you do as i might come by.

I'd have a look at the FAQ page of pitstart: Pit Start - FAQ

It says spraying is prohibited. You might want to check with them first though.

Surely rust sorting is a job for every weekend on a merc.:D

Not if you've got an R171... ;) Well, I can't speak for others, but mine is rust-free (except for the dratted wheel bolts!) at almost six years old. I'm guessing it must be galvanised.

Mind you, my previous facelift R170 was five years old when I swapped it, and its bodywork was also spotless, although I did notice some very light surface rust on the boot hinges shortly before I parted with it.

I had my W168 A Class for about four-and-a-half years, and that was also rust-free, although to be fair I guess some fairly large chunks of its body were plastic.

That just leaves my mid-1990s W202 (S202?) C Class estate, which was generally good but had a couple of minor rust patches by its 10th birthday, one on the roof at the top of the windscreen and another on the tailgate just above the number plate.

All these cars have lived outside, too, as my garage is full of more fragile fare. So, leaving aside the probably well-protected R171, have I just been lucky?
