SL60 - anybody know this car?

I did say nice examples will always be sought after. Your Silver arrows was better than most hence you got a higher price. Nick's last car had around 25000 miles which probably makes it the lowest mileage SL60 in the country.

An average one, with average miles won't make much more than book.

Actually my point was regarding certain models - not mileage or condition related. I've yet to see any Silver Arrow sell for less than £22k - regardless of what the 'book' says. Most go for £25k at dealers.

Well it is very unlikely to be either of my ex-cars as both were c.30k miles not long ago.
80k miles is not big for this engine, so provided it has been well looked after it could be a bargain at around £17-18,000 - it will barely depreciate if looked after properly.
The non-standard wheels are a big downside though - both as an indicator of less than ideal history, and buying proper AMG split rims would cost 4 figures.

Incidentally, I sold mine in December for £23K and the dealer sold it in mid-February for around £28/29K I believe.
I don't think I'd ever have achieved that price as a private seller, but there is a market out there (for the right cars) who will still pay high £20's for them.

I think mine was exceptional in terms of low mileage and condition, and there are maybe half a dozen max others in the UK that still have less than 50k on the clock.

PS approx 385bhp 0-60 under 5 secs IIRC

Yup i agree with KLP 92 not worth it due to it being a pre facelift, its always best to try and find a facelift model after 1998 R plate you get alot more features and the new style key system:D

You can see what the proper wheels look like on that one though ;)

I think facelift models would be N plate onwards, and as Stats said production of the SL60 stopped in 98.

I said in the earlier post that you should try to get the facelift model after R plate but i was corrected that there is no after R plate on these SL's so thats why i said that its an expression.

Not worth it, its a pre facelift, has no AMG kit either.

I know its pre-facelift. But going by the ad description it looks like a really nice car - 1 owner for 10 yrs, lowish miles, looks great.
For someone wanting to spend £20k or less on an SL60 this car is probably a wiser choice than a 97 or 98 facelift car with 80-90k on the clock, after-market wheels and multiple owners, as long as you can live with the pre-facelift elements which are basically the climate control unit and some interior and exterior styling details.

And the old 4-speed gearbox!

Good grief - what a lot of replies.
Thanks for all the comments, it seems that this SL doesn't belong to anyone on the forum.
I'll try to have a chat with the vendor and bearing all your comments in mind, see what I can find out about it's history.
cheers

Do a search on the forum - this car has appeared a few times.

I bow to the experts on this topic but the advert KLP posted gives the impression the car has a 5 speed box?

I think it's technically possible for a pre-facelift car (which this definitely is) to have the 5 speed box, but more likely to be an error in the ad. I think.

5-speed autos were an optional extra before 1996 - though I had assumed all SL60s had them anyway?

Here's a thing...it always really puts me off when I see Mercs being advertised without the plastic covers that cover the timing gears and distributor caps at the front of the cylinder heads....probably unfair but it always makes me think the car hasn't been looked after
