Sl60

The 60 is a fabulous car.

Worth upgrading from my SL500?

Do you remember seeing this one on Ebay a few weeks ago and how much it was up for? It didn't sell and was relisted for £10995.

That "Plant Hire Sales" car has been on the market for at least a year, and if memory serves me right he also had it entered in a classics auction somewhere with a reserve around £13.5k. Funnily enough, don't recall it having the black/dark wheels before?

I don't remember the wheels either, but it's been up for sale at least three times over the last couple of years. No idea why. Price seems very low.

Been in touch with the seller a bit finding out about the car. He has had it for 6 years and has indeed been trying to sell it on and off for 12 months. It was sold at auction a couple of months ago for £9450 + 10% buyer fee but apparently the reserve was £11k and I am guessing we wanted more than 9450 for it.

He had the wheels refurbed by a company called Pristine Wheels a few years ago and apparently did a bad job so the didn't last long. He had them done again by a local company who did a much better job. New tyres on rears and 95% on fronts.

A few rust bubbles around boot so maybe had some paint and it wasn't done properly.

Seems weird why it has been up for sale for a year and not sold don't you think? Generally there is a reason but it seems fairly straight. I have HPI'd it and it come up clean.

Any ideas on what you think it should be worth? Or any other help advice always appreciated.

See what Stats thinks, he's the 129 Guru. For my part I do think it's priced low and this, combined with his attempts to sell it, at least three times, over the last two or three years, makes me wonder. Remember these can be expensive cars to fix if they go wrong. Especially if they have ADS. Touch wood, both my 129's were fine.

Any chance you can PM Stats for me to have a look as I can't PM yet until I have posted a bit more.

It doesn't have ADS on it and has the AMG suspension I am told. He doesn't seem to have spent much on it but seems to have spent when needed to. It has had the compressor replaced as was leaking so fixed the climate so that is working perfectly.

I have ADS on my SL500 and all working nicely but have replaced a fair bit in the 6 months since I bought it to get it up to scratch. Replaced radiator, thermostat, fan clutch and a few other odd bits. Oh and the CATS or removed with a new S/S Powerflow exhaust. I have had the old CATS fabricated though to so have flanges on to be able to quick fit them back in again if needed for MOT emmissions. It flew through the MOT I just had done but wasn't sure if it would pass without the CATS next time so hedged my bets. One CAT had gone and the other seems OK.

Would not be ideal for me to sell my SL500 so soon after just buying it in order to buy the SL60 but hey ho! Mine is in my opinion the right model to buy/sell being the later model with 5 speed auto in Black/Black. Anyone want an SL500?! ;)

Yep - this car has been up for sale for ages.

The fact that it can't be shifted even for silly money makes me cautious if I'm honest.

I'm pretty certain that Stats does know this car, I'm sure he'll be along shortly.

Will

Great stuff thanks IanAlexander2(would that be Ian?)

Seems strange to me that it hasn't sold either. Doesn't seem expensive. Not sure what can be the reason why though. I haven't found a reason yet.

I think I offered him £10k for it a year ago when he wanted £14k. Mileage is a bit high and it needed some rust looking at but for the money if it's sound then why not? You'll get your money back on it - just be aware of what needs doing and budget accordingly.

Thanks stats. So you would have bought it for the 10k a year ago? It was in pretty good nick apart from the rust? Was the rust that bad or just a little bit?

Sorry for all the questions but your help is really appreciated as I know very little about SL60's. Starting to get to know my SL500 very well each weekend! Didn't even know the SL60 existed until I saw this one so forgive my ignorance.

Just means I will have both SL's until I finish what I need to do to my SL500 in order to get it up to scratch to sell it. Mine is the later 5sp auto in black/black, 124k, ADS December 1995/N. Is it about right to look to sell for £7.5k? Any takers? ;)

I'd get a reliable indie give it the once over before parting with my hard earned.

Exactly my plan and a good suggestion. I didn't want to use the AA/RAC brigade but don't know a decent SL specialist. Anyone know a good SL specialist that could look to go and see this one for me and give me a full report? Well worth the cash to do so in my book as well.

The car is in the Forest of Dean I think. The only Indies I could recommend are Northants way. Someone might be able to recommend somewhere nearer, or, at a pinch you could ask him to take it somewhere.

You don't get if you don't ask ;)

OK, thanks for the info. I guess the indi in Northants wouldn't want to travel that far but I could try. What is their name? Any contact name I should speak to? Is this who you use for your Mercs?

Sorry, what I meant was getting the guy to take the car to an Indie elected by you. I can't think my Indie would go across country, I'll ask if you want, but I think there must be cheaper options

Ah...I see. Not sure if I would do that if it were my car but I guess I can ask. Seems like a bit too much to ask really. No harm in asking your Indi I guess though...they might want to do it. Have you used them before to do an inspection for you and if so how much did they charge?

Thanks

I'd wait till someone comes along with a Gloucestershire Indie....My guy would charge a days work...way too pricey for what you want. I would have thought if you can get someone reasonably close you should be looking at about 100 to 150 + vat

Have you checked the Indie section on this forum?
